I love how this DVD is divided into 10 minute segments. it's perfect to do first thing in the morning to get going or on the weekend for a full 50 minute workout. the moves are pretty basic, but they'll give you a good workout when you do the whole video. I would definitely try another Pilates video by this instructor.

I have been teaching Pilates since the early 1970s. I was fortunate enough to study with Joseph Pilates in the 1960s. Joseph Pilates would be happy to know his method of exercise is so popular. But he would not be happy about all the ways people change his method and lifelong dedication to helping people stay healthy. Joseph Pilates created a fascinating and complicated technique of body conditioning. And I never saw him teach a person for 10 minutes. 10 minutes would never be enough. Innovation can be helpful but not in this situation. For me, the traditional Pilates method can never be improved upon because it's too sophisticated and too complete. Please, no yoga-lates no bal-lates no aqua-lates no others.

The ten minutes are over before you know it! I love the abs, buns/thighs, and burn segments. You really see results quickly.

This video is great. I didn't find the instructor annoying. I do agree that the power stretch could be a bit better. The stretching in general throughout the DVD is not great - a physician once told me to sustain all stretches for at least 8 seconds. Many times I noticed the instructor only holding the stretch for a few seconds. So that's why I knocked off a star in my rating. Other than that, I think this workout is really, really good for beginners. Those who want an intermediate video shouldn't necessarily pass this up, though... the instructor gives many options for making the workout more challenging. I dont think 10 mins can make anyone loose weight, so the 10 min workouts i do the whole 50 mins. I've been working out for about a year usally 2 hours 4 days a week so 10 mins isnt nothing to me, but this work out doing ALL 5 segs. was a great workout and i think if you do all 5 or 3 or 4 your good to go, but just one is silly. This DVD is the best money you could ever spend on yourself. For the price of about two Big-Mac meals, you can learn to burn from one of the best instructors on the planet. I was very sore after only three workouts. But my energy level started to pick-up quickly, my mental alertness, my "enthusiasm" (if you know what I mean, ladies!) and overall health. I've had this DVD for several months and enjoy the Intermediate Pilates workout. It only takes about 15 minutes, so there's no excuse for not fitting it in somewhere in the day. Since I have trouble sticking with exercise programs consistently for long periods of time, that's a real plus for me.
Don't worry about the speed of the routines. Hello, that's what the remote control is for on your DVD player! Just pause and rewind until you "get it" and once you can do all the exercises then you'll really appreciate the pace of the workouts because they don't waste your time. This is a bare-bones low-budget video production with no fancy graphics or music, no sexy instructors and the outfits worn by the instructors look like they are from the fifties. This DVD was so great. I am a Rodney Yee Yoga fan, but I really enjoyed this one. Lara is so clear and her form and instruction are great. The Yoga burn section was amazing!
