Review(s): DVD Rudolph & Frosty's Christmas in July
A Wonderful Christmas Classic!!!
Rudolf is the greatest! The only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the stupid trailers for other shows that are on there. Please DO NOT have trailers(family favorites) on videos or dvd's PERIOD! Trailers ruin the value of the dvd. Otherwise, this movie is a timeless CLASSIC!!!
Nice to see a forgotten favorite...
I have always wanted to find this item on DVD... and this past x-mas I did! As a prior review stated, the sound is a bit out of sync, but... I am a fan of Ethel Merman, and it is a kick to hear her sing about 4 to 5 songs... the price was nice, and it brings back good memories. It's just fun stuff, and new kids should be introduced to items which are truly classics, without all the high tech stuff!!
Great for Rankin-Bass fans
I have more to say about it at DVDtoons.com, but here's the short of it: It does run a little long, and could have certainly used some editing, but this movie is fun and rates well against the R-B TV specials. Anyone who thinks this movie is too confusing could not have been paying much attention, and I also would not say it's scary--- my 3-year old loved it (of course, it will depend on your own child's "scare threshhold"). Personally, I enjoyed the "origin" of Rudolph, found the new mythology of the characters charming, and thought Winterbolt to be a great villain. The movie gets a 7/10 from me, although the video quality could have been a little better on the disc. The lack of extras was disappointing too.

Frosty's Winter Wonderland It's no secret that sequels to classic TV specials rarely stack up--they're usually guilty of getting too fancy with characters and story lines, causing irritating fissures to form in our perceptions of the originals. Lucky for a new generation of holiday viewers, that's not the case with Frosty's Winter Wonderland. In fact, lining up a Frosty double feature at home in which the original is directly followed by the new title is a fully cringe-free proposition, thanks mostly to the down-homey, pleasant narration of Andy Griffith and the near-perfect portrayal of the Frosty we all know and love by Jackie Vernon. The Wonderland dialogue doesn't trouble itself with tiresome throwbacks, and even the plot isn't overly ambitious: Frosty, lonely at the... This DVD contains three holiday titles from Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass.
The Year Without a Santa Claus Even Santa can suffer a case of the holiday blues. In this 1974 stop-motion holiday family favorite, a sparkly eyed Mrs. Claus (voiced by Shirley Booth) sings and tells about the year her hubby felt too weary and too unappreciated to prepare for his annual Christmas rounds. Mickey Rooney stars as the voice of Santa, a rosy-nosed puppet who travels incognito to Southtown in search of his tiniest reindeer, Vixen, and two well-meaning elves. Seems Mrs. Santa sent them to find proof of Christmas spirit--but all they've discovered is ambivalence about Santa's year off. Luckily, when Santa arrives and befriends a buck-toothed lad named Ignatius Thistlewhite, spirits... I remember seeing this during Christmastime in elementary school waiting for my piano lesson in my instructor's TV room. It's a classic. Sure, it's not as known as Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, Frosty and The Year Without a Santa Claus, but it deserves to be. Children and adults will enjoy this Christmas classic. Thoroughly enjoyable! More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 17 September 2002 Usually ships in 24 hours

When I first saw this collection in the store, I just had to buy it!! Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is my all time favorite Christmas special! The others in this collection are great also, especially Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town.
On a more troublesome note, I was reading some about the original production of Rudolph and found some interesting info. First of all, nowhere on this package does it credit Rankin and Bass. Also, there is a cover of Burl Ives' classic song by (of all people) Destiny's Child. I'm not a fan of theirs anyways, but this is almost sacrilege! I also found out that this version is different from the version that originally aired in 1964. The next year (1965) some songs were changed and some scenes cut. There were also deleted scenes that were never even... This is an excellent stop-motion TV special that originally aired during the early 70's. It features the voices of Danny Kaye, Vincent Price and Casey Kasem. It is produced by the wonderful animation team of Rankin/Bass who also graced our television sets with holiday traditions such as "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", "Santa Claus is Coming To Town", "Frosty the Snowman", and the popular cult classic "Mad Monster Party".
This fanciful, pastel-colored Easter special is based on a book titled "The Easter Bunny Who Overslept". Peter agrees to a contest against Evil Irontail to see who can deliver the most Easter eggs. But, when Peter oversleeps, leaving Evil Irontail to rule April Valley (the land of Easter bunnys), he must travel back through time making unplanned stops at all the...
