  • DVD Northern Exposure - The Complete Second Season

The colorful cast of characters from Cicely, Alaska, returns for a new set of adventures in Northern Exposure: The Complete Second Season. While much of the first season was devoted to establishing the plot, each of the seven episodes in season 2 helps us to know the offbeat ensemble of Cicely residents a little better. Dr. Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow), the New York urbanite stationed in small-town Alaska to pay off his medical-school tuition, still complains constantly about his assignment, but it's clear the town's growing on him when he passes up an opportunity to return home (if only temporarily). We learn from town patriarch Maurice (Barry Corbin) that retired astronauts have groupies, and when a beautiful woman steals the voice of DJ "Chris in the Morning" (John Corbett), it's no huge surprise when the long-deceased spirit of "One Who Waits" provides Chris with an ancient Indian cure.

But it's the chemistry between Joel and Maggie (Janine Turner) that really makes the series sizzle. The season is book-ended by a pair of breakups that leave first Joel, and then Maggie single, clearing the way for the romance to come in later seasons. The season includes "Spring Break," one of the best-loved episodes from the series. With the impending arrival of spring, libidos run amok, a wave of petty crime hits the town, and the men in town blow off steam au naturale in the annual "Running of the Bulls."

Season 2's packaging and extras are virtually identical to those from season 1. The two-disc set comes sheathed in a collectible mini zippered nylon "parka," and each episode includes deleted scenes and bloopers. There are no retrospectives or interviews with cast and crew, and no printed materials accompany the discs. --Shane Burnett

    Bad/Missing Music - Contact Universal

Not sure if this has been posted, but for those who are upset about the lack of original music on seasons 2 and 3 (whether you have purchased it or not) you can contact Universal Studios using their form at: http://www.universalstudios.com/homepage/html/contact_us/contact_form.cgi?email_id=11

Also, if anyone knows how to set up an internet petition or form email to send them about restoring the music, I would be very interested in this. It breaks my heart that I can't get the REAL show that I enjoyed as a child, and complaints to Universal Studios seems the best option for now. Let them know that you effect their bottom line. :)

Missing last episode (it's Battlestar Galactica bonus material)

I don't know about the rest of you, but I got the 3 season package deal. On the second season's second disk, side B (up to that point there were 6 episodes, 2 on each side of disc 1 and side A of disc 2) I put the disc in and discover the menu for bonus material of Battlestar Galactica!! I just assumed there were only 6 episodes in season 2 and the studios filled side B of disc 2 with crap. Looks like I may have a special "edition", since others haven't mentioned this (at least the reviews I read so far). Maybe it's worth something!!

My low rating is for the fine editing and production job, certainly not for the brilliance of the series.

    SUBTITLES IN SPANISH

Hi! I'm Daniel Martín and i have a question. I would like listen the original voices of the actors & actress, in her maternal language but i don't know english very well. Why don't have subtitles in spanish the second season of Northem Exposure? Why only in french? Is that correct? Thanks a lot.

Northern Exposure - The Complete First Season DVD

Whether it's a snowy nude sprint down Main Street, the mysterious appearance of a long-lost relative, or the improbable death of yet another of Maggie's boyfriends, life's never dull in the remote hamlet of Cicely, Alaska. Colorful characters and quirky plots propelled Northern Exposure into the hearts of millions of viewers, earning the CBS "dramedy" series seven Emmy awards between its 1990 debut and its demise six seasons later.

In season 1, we meet Dr. Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow), an urban New York yuppie who consents to four years of rural servitude after Alaska pays his medical-school tuition. Joel's fish-out-of-water adventures drive the show, but it's the quirky ensemble of characters--Chris, the DJ/philosopher (John Corbett), Holling, the bartender (John Cullum),... Northern Exposure - The Complete Third Season DVD

I just received all 5 Norhtern Exposure box sets from Amazont. I notice Seasons 1&2, 4, and 5 all have the same packaging (logo on front, logo on spine, discs slide out the right side). But on the 3rd Season set i received, the discs slide out the LEFT side, and there is NO logo on the spine. In fact NOTHING on the spine. No DVD logo, no Universal logo, no Northern Exposure logo. It will look a bit out of place on my shelf, when it's the only box set without the title on the spine of the box. Does anyone else have this problem? Is this inherent in ALL 3rd season box sets, or did i get a mis-print? Any help would be great. Thanks. More Info about this DVD

    Moonlighting - Seasons 1 & 2 DVD

Glamorous Maddie Hayes (Cybill Shepherd) is an ex-model with a problem--her accountant just ran off with her money. Granted, he did leave her with a few broken-down businesses. One happens to be a detective agency run by charming loudmouth David Addison (Bruce Willis). Her attempt to shutter the agency fails when they stumble across a crime and David convinces Maddie to help him solve it. And with that, one of television's most popular partnerships was born. Moonlighting made a star out of newcomer Willis and turned Shepherd (Taxi Driver), who had already found fame through fashion and film, into a bona fide TV star.

Created for ABC by Glenn Gordon Caron (Remington Steele), the romantic comedy/detective drama was a mid-season replacement that quickly became a... More Info about this DVD
