Yes, to quote Madea Simmons from "Diary of a Mad Black Woman," this movie is a rag. It is one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my entire life; it's trash, pure and simple. The acting is terrible and plus, it demeans the original (and classic!) television program. I wouldn't waste your time. Go out and buy the real TV Show and get your money's worth.
A Cute Movie!
I like The Beverly Hillbillies. The TV show may be better but I also like this theatrical movie version which I thought was pretty cute and I liked the cast, I especially liked Jim Varney and Deidrich Bader who were both great as Jed and Jethro but Chloris Leachman, Lily Tomlin, Erika Eleniak and Dabney Coleman were good too as Jane, Ellie May, Granny and Mr. Drysdale and I'm happy that this movie is finally on DVD and is in widescreen and I could finally get rid of my old pan & scan video and I highly recommend the DVD to anyone who liked this movie! Now they just need to put complete seasons of the old TV show on DVD!
Very Funny!
I grew up watching the original Beverly Hillbillies so I was thrilled when this one came out. Jim Varney does a great job in the part of Jed. The other characters are also wonderful. It was a lot of fun to watch.
This a good movie to use as an introduction to the Ernest character. We see Ernest go through the usual routine of being his clumsy, stupid self, but his persona is dashed with a peculiar hint of altruism in this particular Christmas movie.
Ernest is working as a cab driver, and who should his next fare be? Why, it's Old St. Nick himself!
When Ernest asks Santa to pay, Santa finds out he accidentally mixed up his US currency with a large batch of Mr. Funtime play money. Oops!
Ernest cuts the old guy a break and lets Santa ride for free. The boss of the cab company isn't too pleased upon hearing this, as you might imagine, and we see Ernest get fired.
Ernest is bummed, so he and his new friend Harmony go to visit his buddy Vern. We... More Info about this DVD Director(s): John R. Cherry III DVD Release Date: Released the 03 September 2002 Usually ships in 24 hours

I've always pretty much liked the Ernest movies. Yes, they are silly and whatnot but they were always funny and I can't think of another actor who can make such funny faces. Unfortunately, in this one the budget was seemed to have been kept to a maximum of about 200 bucks. It's very low budget and it was dissappointing to see Ernest in something so stupid. The story was cheesy, flimsy, and stupid. The actors (excluding Ernest himself) were horrible, and it was altogether just cheesy. Ernest also wasn't very funny in this one at all. His co-star, that dumb waitress who goes along with Ernest to Africa was so mean and stupid I just wanted to slap her across the face. Anyways, there's not much to say about this movie except if you want some real Ernest, I'd suggest "Ernest goes to... More Info about this DVD Director(s): John R. Despite the presence of hack director Arthur Hiller, this hybrid comedy-thriller works most of the time as pleasant faux Hitchcock. Gene Wilder is a book editor who is relaxing by taking a cross-country train ride. Then he gets caught up in a murder--and becomes a suspect. It's up to him to prove his own innocence. As noted, the script, by Colin Higgins, owes a big debt to Alfred Hitchcock; but the mystery isn't all that mysterious and the comedy isn't all that hilarious--at least not until Richard Pryor shows up, which is at least halfway through the film. Things definitely pick up from there. Jill Clayburgh, as the love interest, is merely along for the train ride. Wilder and Pryor eventually teamed up for several other films, but they were never as funny together as they are in this... The Treehouse Hostage, an evolutionary masterpiece in the art of high school drama, takes a daring step in analyzing the social dynamics of the youth of our nation. Starring such unsung talent as Jim Varney, who has played the hopelessly lovable Ernest in the well...Ernest movie classics series, plays a ex-vietnam, underwater, basket weaving coach who befriends a hilariously charming talking dolphin named Nicodemus. Jim Varney's arcane knowledge of ancient Filipino stick fighting style makes for a zenith in the realm of martial arts cinema, the culmination of 20th century action. Overall I would recommend this to anyone possessing any type of obsessive compulsive disorder of the shin, of south east Pennsylvanian descent, or is in any way named Bob. 5 stars. Nuff said. Definitely the worst ernest movie i've ever seen- Very dissappionting- my family loves ernest movies- but this one is really bad. It doesn't reflect on or do justice to the earlier movies and the actors are terrible.
