Is More Necessarily Better???
In this case: No. Have you ever sat in front of the TV and surfed thru 300 cable stations only to find that there's nothing worth watching? That's the way I feel about this DVD.
The early fires, (each runs only 10 - 35 minutes) burn way too hot with huge flames that make you want to bust out the fire extinguisher before the house comes down. - Not exactly relaxing.
The later fires have cartoonish, clip-art-like mantles that look childish and really bad on the TV screen. And don't even get me started on those candles against the black screen with the white dots (a shot at an evening sky I assume).
By the way, Is relaxing music supposed to include 'Horns'?
I don't want mantles, a camera zooming in and out, goofy gimicks like matches striking, ......I just want ONE good fire, that is long running.
A Hit for the Holidays
I purchased this DVD to play on the office TV set as part of our holiday decorations. It was a big hit. Offers eight different fires and a sequence of holiday candles burning. Special features allow you to play the different fires in a loop or in sequence, allowing for a nice, constant fire on the screen or the various fires in sequence. For the office, we played the "fire crackling" sound, but the DVD does offer other music, holiday and non-holiday to play along with the fire. A fun item for parties if you don't have a real fireplace.
Good quality
I bought this DVD and Virtual Flames. This one is much better, mainly because it uses real wood, not gas logs. Of the 9 fires on this DVD, (if you count candles as a fire), most are no better than 1 star. This is mostly because they show too much foreground instead of just the fire. However, there is one good one and one is enough. All you see is the fire. It uses real wood and is realistic. It's not a huge fire, more of a cozy one, with about 4 pieces of wood, (I wouldn't call them logs). However, it is about right for my 28 inch TV. If you have a giant screen you might want to find a bigger, log burning fire. I liked it well enough to buy another one for a gift. It can be automatically looped to run forever.

I bought this video combined with Hawaiian Waves for my anniversary dinner. I was VERY pleased with both the video and audio. Having a big screen, it truly felt like we were close to a fire but the cleanup only existed of stopping the DVD. For folks that are being too harsh in judging this video, apparently they would rather lite a campfire in their living room. Don't like the three options with this DVD? Go spend $1000 and install your own fireplace, dummies. I definetly expect to use this DVD at every function and get-together. Don't be afraid to take the chance on this DVD. I bought this DVD for the instant fireplace. It's awesome for that feature alone. The fire is realistic, it fills the whole TV screen, and it crackles like a real fireplace. I swear the room feels warmer when we have it on! And the other features are a good bonus. The beach is not my favorite, because the tree looks fakey, but the kids like it. The party scenes are good background stuff to put on when you have people over. There's a lava lamp, and flashing disco lights. I often put these things on without the sound and play our own music on our sound system. It's better than having TV with commercials on. We like the view of the clothes tumbling in the dryer for "visual white noise". If you have to get a toddler (or a daddy) to sleep, this one works a wonder! I just received the "Waves: The Best Caribbean Beaches" DVD in the mail today. I am extremely pleased with the visuals. The beaches and waves are very relaxing and soothing. I sat down and watched the whole thing on my widescreen TV as soon as I took the disc out of the media mailer. The visuals were spectacular! I only wish there was a function that splashed my feet whenever the waves lapped past the bottom of my TV screen!
Thank you Greg Voevodsky for producing such a wonderful DVD. I am really looking forward to the future HD Waves productions. I can only imagine how spectacular those will be. Keep up the great work!!!
I purchased this product because I dont have a fireplace and have thoroughly enjoyed it! I like the fact that there is 3 different fires to choose from. Cant wait to turn on Christmas morning!!
