Bill Murray is in his early-career, shambling glory as Hunter S. Thompson, the gonzo journalist with a fondness for Wild Turkey and firearms. While Murray does not do as exact an impersonation of Thompson as Johnny Depp (in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), he does capture Thompson's dazed, anarchic nature. Unfortunately, the movie around him is just anarchic: a series of episodes (true or invented) from Dr. Thompson's career, circa 1968-72. The haphazard structure is probably meant to suggest the spirit of the counterculture or something, but it's just flabby storytelling. Thanks to Murray's blissful delivery, there are scenes that have a stoned giddiness to them: Thompson and his attorney (Peter Boyle) terrifying an unsuspecting hitchhiker, or Thompson alone in a men's room with Richard Nixon. Neil Young contributes some music, and Murray warbles "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" while drunkenly piloting a plane. --Robert Horton

Review(s): DVD Where the Buffalo Roam
    WTBR vs. Fear and loathing

After watching Where the buffalo roam and talking about it to others ive come to learn that most people havnt even heard of it, Surprisingely most fans of Fear and Loathing havnt either or even heard of Hunter S. Thompson, the famous Doctor of gonzo journalism. The story flows along the lines of Thompsons book "Fear and loathing on the campaign trial of 72". The movie doesnt focus on a preticular event but more on the life-style of the early years of Thompson and as well as later unlike fear and loathing in las vegas that takes place in one event and a certain point in time. I give Where the buffalo roam four stars because i'd seen fear and loathing first. Bill Murrey does a great job betraying Dr.Thompson both those who have seen fear and loathing all know that Johnny Depp nails it. Dont get me wrong for the eighties WTBR is a great movie that inroduces a great name of a unique American. Hunter S. Thompson is one of the most inspiring writers/journalist in the world who will be missed greatly. I advise everyone to see this movie and if you havent seen either of them i would advise you see this one first and get to know the characters then see fear and loathing.

A Must for Bill Murray Fans

Bill Murray in one of his most interesting roles portraying Hunter S. Thompson. Its amazing how this unpredictable, almost apathetic character can captivate the audience from beginnning to end.
