Review(s): DVD Navel Power - Kundalini Yoga w/ Ravi Singh & Ana Brett
This DVD is right on target
I have to disagree with the reviewer who did not like the Navel Power DVD. I have a feeling she is just not a yoga person. I personally do not like the type lof 6-pack look that non-yoga ab workouts produce. I like the strong nicely shaped natural abs that yoga workouts like this one produce.
Ana & Ravi's DVD's are consistently good and this one is no exception. This type of yoga will take you out of the familiar yoga you may know. You will recognize some hatha moves, but there is always something added, like special breath techniques and movement. You may be surprized at how cardio these kundalini yoga workouts can be. Cardio and spirtitual at the same time. It is an amazing combo that leaves me buzzing and feeling happy for a couple days every time I do it.
The moves are simple but not necessarily easy if your navel power was weak like mine when I began(after having twins!) I think the breath is what makes these navel exercises so effective. Form is also so important to really make any ab work effective and imitating Ana's form has helped me a lot! I am already seeing some change and have just ordered 4 more for gifts.
Ravis instruction is perfect and poetic and and Ana is grace and strength personified.
Not your usual yoga or ab workout
I've only tried one other Kundalini DVD--Mantra Girl. It isn't like this one, and I'm not familiar with Kundalini so it's difficult for me to say what the typical Kundalini practice is like.
There are some poses that really work your abs. There's also a lot of breath work, some meditation, and unusual movements like arching your spine back and forth while sitting with your legs folded beneath you. You don't need the flexibility or endurance you do for some yoga practices. Also, the DVD version is relatively well-chaptered so you don't have to do the whole thing, though I felt funny starting in the middle of the practice. So this might be good for someone new to yoga or someone looking for a unique practice.
I personally prefer Yogilates 2 or Baron Baptiste's Core Power for yoga-based ab work. I usually do yoga to relax, build strength, or focus on my breath within the context of controlled moves. This one just didn't fit my idea of an ab workout or a yoga practice.
Excellent Programs, on all levels.
The DVD's are very engaging. I particularly enjoy the cues and encouragements from Ravi, they are unique and intriguing, well spoken. I was delighted that the meditation/chant on Navel Power was the same one we enjoyed in class. The meditation/chant on the Flexibility program is delicious, also. I like the fact that the beat of the background music is related throughout. The visuals are simple and perfect. When I need to check in, there is Ana, in perfect form, perfectly calm. Very helpful in allowing me to return to rhythm or form when I might have veered off. The animated logo is lovely. All around, a first class effort.

I LOVE this DVD; I was going to put it on my Christmas list but could not wait after seeing the streaming video preview on the [...] website.I have been doing power yoga for 3 years & love my gym's classes, but started to need more stretch. All the strength building was making me lose my flexibility which was starting to make me feel like I am getting old and I am only in my very early 30's! Plus I was starting to get carpal tunnel from too many down dogs. This is the perfect workout for me when I can't get to the gym. Since I can't get to the gym a lot over the holidays I plan to be using this a lot in the next couple months. I think it will help me to maintain muscle while helping me to get my elasticity back.
Another holiday plus:This type of yoga always leaves me energized and... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Ravi Singh - Ana Brett DVD Release Date: Released the 01 December 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours

Ok..Just when I thought I was moving to an advanced level in my practice a dvd comes along that kicks my butt! This one certainly did. I loved the variations of the poses and was glad to see that there were asanas that were not on my other dvd's. I am so tired of the Sun Salutation that is on other work outs. I have always had trouble with the lunge part of that set and this dvd cuts that part completely out. THANK YOU! It was a refreshing and tough workout and I am glad I bought it! Will be a nice complement for my other dvd's when I need to really get moving. I have recently stumbled upon Kundalini Yoga. I am loving it more and more every day. I still do my Hatha and Astanga, but for getting my engery going and feeling that I am doing wonders for cleansing my body, you can not beat Kundalini Yoga. Ravi has a wonderful soothing voice, not irritating nor condesending. He explains exactly what the excersizes purpose is and Ana executes it for you to see how it should be done. No downward dogs here, nor the usual poses you would expect. This is yoga in the traditional sense of doing a set (Kriya) and then doing corpse pose and then doing another set. This is meant to expand your mind and cleanse your organs and create flexability in your back and spine. I have now purchased 2 other DVDs from Ravi and Ana and I am really, really, really... I recently got hold of this one and I am so glad that I did. I had put off buying it because of reviews which spoke of Ana's near naked body. All I can say is that it must be all sour grapes. While you can see a hint of Anas nipples. I don't think I would have even noticed if they had not had so much press!
Ana is beautiful and I think she can expect a lot of arrows slung her way. It is unfortunate. This DVD is a classic. The workout is first rate. The demonstration(by Ana)is first rate. The voiceover by Ravi is also first rate.
I like Ana's almost goth/ almost japonese makeup. The way her hair flops about as she performs with perfect precision. The lighting. The blue and pink set.You also see Ravi make a rare appearance at the beginning and end of the workout.

Comprehensive but user-friendly, reasonably challenging but accessible to a variety of levels, Yoga Shakti is inarguably one of the best yoga products on the market--no small achievement when one considers just how many of them there are. Instructor-creator Shiva Rea, a California-based yogi of considerable international renown, specializes in vinyasa yoga (a vinyasa is essentially a series of flowing, connected poses, incorporating breath and movement and cultivating heat, strength, flexibility, and balance). Four complete practices are presented, ranging in length from 42 to 85 minutes and including Basic Flow (for beginners), two more vigorous Solar Flow sequences, and a Lunar Flow sequence falling somewhere in the middle in terms of degree of difficulty; familiar...
