DVD Highway to Heaven - Season One
The premiere season of Michael Landon's Highway to Heaven is consolidated into this collectors edition box set of seven discs containing 24 episodes of faith and love. The television series (1984-1989) has a loyal following because of its compelling storylines and uplifting messages characteristic of Landon, an icon of family-friendly entertainment since the early days of Little House on the Prairie and Bonanza. An angel on assignment from God is disguised as "everyman" Jonathan Smith in order to comfort--and sometimes miraculously guide--the lost and suffering through various dilemmas. Smith and his earthly cohort, ex-cop Mark Gordon (Victor French), journey across country to work as horse trainers, bellhops, baby-sitters--whatever the task requires. The collection leads with the two-part pilot episode that establishes Smith and Gordon's friendship. Other highlights of the collection include the two-part "Thoroughbreds" with guest star Helen Hunt as a woman who learns to risk love while battling cancer; and "Help Wanted: Angel" where Gordon is cast in a movie and falls in love with the leading lady. Especially poignant is a bonus documentary, "Michael Landon: Memories with Laughter and Love," a tribute to the prolific star including film clips and reminiscences by family members. (Ages 8 and older) --Lynn Gibson
NO CLOSED CAPTIONING!!!!! WHAT A SHAME!!! A&E GET YOUR ACT IN GEAR!!!
Whoever stated that these have closed captioning had better do their homework. They do not! So, whoever cannot hear worth a darn, forget this series.
Love It BUT........
Highway to Heaven is a wonderful show! A bit hokey at times, but who doesn't love a warm, fuzzy, hokey show once and a while. This was such a great show, every one having a moral to it and lesson on how to treat our fellow man or animal. The only disappointment is the cursing in the show. It is gratuitous and unnecessary. So, if you don't mind up to 7 or 8 hell's and damn's and a few "oh my G - - " in the episodes then I'd buy it. For us, we'd rather not listen to it and won't purchase another season. Such a shame, it is a wonderful show!! I guess Michael Landon (who is one of my favorites) was trying to prove he was not really an angel and attract others by adding in the language. It isn't needed and takes away from the show.........especially one with Heaven right in the title. That being said.....I loved A Divine Madness and the Pilot episode. We were all disappointed in the episode A Child Of God where a preacher states that you don't have to belive in God to get to heaven, God is not looking for recognition. I think someone needs to re-read their Bible!
It's just like Littel House But with Angels....
Christian sheep unite and flock to your dvd players. Jesus has heard our prayers and Michael Landon has left his poor as dirt praire dwelling vagrant family for the special effect filled 80's funfest Highway to Heaven. Inspired by such Sci. Fi. classics as Star Wars and Close Encounters and far better than Saved by The Bell, Highway is great theater, who needs school houses and "children down the well" when eternal souls are in jeopardy. And who could save us better than that poofy haired supernatural guardian Landon. I cry everytime I watch the show knowing that is was such a struggle for Landon to work sober in those days, especially after his best friend Rock Hudson passed away.
Well, anyway sit back...enjoy the show.....think about the day you'll meet Landon on the Highway to Heaven.
Thourgly enjoyed season 2, i saw the series on television many years ago so i cant say or remember exactly what's been edited on certain scenes.
All i can say is that Michael Landon and Victor French were very inspirational to us all and unfortunatly since there passing on there hasn't been anyone yet today that can make these quality loving family shows.
Hopefully the final three sasons will be released soon.
I love the LHOTP series, but the DVDs could be so much better. Editing, timing, sound are often way off, but like big corp. has figured out, I'll watch it anyway, because the show is just so wonderful. Touched by an Angel swiftly amassed a devout following, drawn to the TV series' clear Christian values and the warm performances of Roma Downey (she of the creamy complexion and lush pre-Raphaelite hair) and Della Reese as Monica and Tess, two angels sent to help troubled human beings. The first season had the additional virtue of exploring the ordinary yet complex emotional problems of troubled marriages, rebellious teens, and coping with the death of a loved one, in stories that were (with a few exceptions) cleanly written and down-to-earth--though, of course, everything was resolved by divine intervention. The second season, regrettably, dives into melodrama: A pregnant woman is trapped in a bank vault after her husband tries to rob the bank; a lawyer meets up with an old... The ninth season of Little House on the Prairie was re-invented as Little House: A New Beginning after star Michael Landon decided to leave the series. (He continued to produce, direct and write for the show.) The first episode began with the departure of Landon's Pa Ingalls, who fell on hard economic times and moved his family to the city . He returned for just one harrowing two-parter, "Home Again," in which son Albert (Matthew Laborteaux) battled a morphine addiction. In Landon's absence, it was up to the other denizens of Walnut Grove to provide drama, and provide they did. The meddling, gossipy Harriet Oleson (Katherine MacGregor) played town villain, followed by her whiny adopted daughter Nancy (Allison Balson), who was annoying but never as deliciously wicked as her...
