Review(s): DVD Classic Cartoon Favorites - Extreme Music Fun
DECENT SHORTS BUT NOT NEW
As the other reviewer mentioned many of these shorts are on the various Disney Treasures collections so if you own those then you'll want to avoid this eight short feature collection. The eight shorts on this hour-long DVD are all music themed and while they don't represent the best Disney shorts they are fairly decent.
"Mickey's Grand Opera" is from 1936
"Music Land" is a Silly Symphony from 1935 that doesn't feature any Disney Characters.
"Orphan's Benefit" is from 1941 and has Mickey, Donald, and others putting on a show for orphan kids.
"Farmyard Symphony" from 1938 is another Silly Symphony without benefit of Mickey or any of the other stable of characters. It's a symphony set to the sounds of the barnyard animals...
"Pluto's Blue Note" is from 1947 and probably the best short on this DVD. Pluto finds he can use his tail as a phonograph.
"How to Dance" In the 1950's, Disney made a series of "how to" shorts featuring goofy demonstrating various activities. They were all pretty good. This one from 1953 has Goofy showing off various dance syles.
"woodland Cafe" One more Silly Symphony from 1937.
"Donald's Dilemma" 1947 - After getting hit in the head with a flower pot, Donald thinks he's a famous crooner and no longer recognizes Daisy...until she clocks him with another pot.
The fact that three of the shorts are Silly Symphonies without Disney characters is going to really limit the appeal of this DVD to kids in my mind and since some of the other shorts can be found in the Treasures collections it won't have much appeal to Disney collectors either so I'm not so sure about this one.
Treasure fans Beware!
Many of these shorts on this DVD (as well as the other DVD's in this series) have been on the treasures allready so i recomend passing on these DVD's besides all the dirt and the bad restoration you'll see on the cartoons!

I gave this to my 3 year old today and she turned it off herself by the middle of the second cartoon. She was disturbed by the first cartoon that had Donald Duck trying to beat up a baby seal, I have to say it made me a little uncomfortable because we are trying to teach her that hitting is wrong.
But the second cartoon, where the bugs in Mickey's garden grow and try to eat Mickey and Pluto is where my daughter started to cry and ran over to the TV and turned it off.
It might just be my child, because we are usually very careful and watch her videos before she does so she isn't exposed to any overly violent content. But I broke our rule with this one because...hey, it's Mickey Mouse.
Personally, my husband and I had a blast watching it by ourselves.... More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 11 January 2005 Usually ships in 24 hours

I have a two year old girl and this dvd is just long enough for her to stay interested, but not too long to bore her. Being 8 cartoons - it's not the biggest set out there, and I'll probably buy the big set as soon as I finish this comment, but It's good for a little one if you're not wanting to spend $30 on a big set. Now that I know there's a bigger set out there, and I'm a Duck fan, I'll get it. This is a good dvd to put on before dinner to keep her occupied - and, by the time dinner's ready, she's settled down and ready to eat. I've been a bit tough on some of these recent Disney collections due to the fact that all or most of the shorts were already appearing on the Disney Treasures sets and so getting those were a much better value. But in this case, only three of these are on those Treasures sets and each is on a different one so it makes this a definite one to pick up. Certaintly they will eventually be on the Treasures editions but until then I would recommend this set. Be advised that even though it says holiday celebration not all of these shorts really have a holiday theme. Some are simply shorts that take place in the winter.
Rescue Dog 1947 - Pluto is a rescue dog in the snow-covered mountains of the frozen north. But when he tangles with a playful baby seal, it turns out that he is... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Wilfred Jackson DVD Release Date: Released the 27 September 2005 Usually ships in 24 hours

The mischievous chipmunks Chip and Dale began as the unnamed rodent-pests in "Private Pluto" (1943); they acquired names in their third film, "Chip an' Dale" (1947). Although the duo became a mainstay of the Disney shorts during the late '40s and '50s, primarily as adversaries for Donald Duck, the characters never quite gelled. Their appearance and the pitch and comprehensibility of their voices change noticeably from film to film. Chip (the smarter one with the smaller nose) and Dale (the dim one with the larger nose and, often, buck teeth) are at their best when they're trying to protect their home and acorns from Donald ("Chip an' Dale," "Out on a Limb") or Pluto ("Food for Feudin'"). They're less appealing when they become aggressors ("Three for Breakfast"). The other three entries in... Goofy is hilarious. when I used to to watch him alot as a kid on Disney I couldn't help but laugh at his type of antics for humor. it was so stupid it was funny. he really touches kids too . even in his short cartoons. I would recommend everyone give Goofy a chance. young or old. you're never too young or too old for cartoons. enjoy what you will
