Review(s): DVD I Love Lucy - The Complete First Season
"I love Lucy" I do!
I have finally decided to go and buy the new edition first season of I love on dvd and I am glad that I did. I had the old edition that was released in 2003, and I hated that whenever I would go to my dvd shelf and see season 2-6 in the compact boxes and then I have to look down and see those bulky boxes from season 1, it made me so angry that I spent almost a hundred bucks and regret not having the newer edition that costs a lot less and plus each dics has more than 4 shows on it. I get tired of having to trade out the dvds every hour to put in a different one in. I have debated on keeping my first set for collectors reasons, or to just sell it because I don't need 2 of the first season and I need more space as well. I decided that I would put them up for auction and sell them, knowing that I would not get near what I paid for them and it is such a disappointment too. I know that it is my fault for not waiting it out, but how was I to know that they were planning on making season 2-6 in slimmer cases. I now own I dream of Jeannie seasons 1-2 and the 3rd on pre order at Amazon, Bewitched seasons 1-4, and several others seasons and they all come in the slim cases and so being a huge fan of I Love Lucy I want the slimmer first season as well, and plus my entertainment space is becoming limited with all of these great sets coming out on the market and with the first edition of season one it took up fifety percent of my space. The only good thing that I can think of with the first edition of season one is that you can buy them seperately online and so if any of your original discs gets lost or scratched you can order another one easily without having to buy the whole set over again. I also like the inserts in the first season and hated letting them go when I sold it as well but it is definitely worth buying this new edition because of less space, cost and it more convienent too.

Season 2 of I Love Lucy includes two of the most famous half-hours in television history. "Job Switching," originally broadcast mid-September of 1952, is the crazy, battle-of-the-sexes episode in which husbands Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz) and Fred Mertz (William Frawley) trade roles with wives Lucy (Lucille Ball) and Ethel (Vivian Vance), culminating in the men making a shambles of domestic chores while Lucy and Ethel take disastrous work at a chocolate factory. That's right: This is the show where the ladies have a Chaplinesque experience with a too-fast factory conveyor belt, forcing them to hide candies in their mouths, in their hats, and down their blouses lest a tough forewoman fire them for incompetence. A half-century later, the scene is still so fresh and funny it would... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Ralph Levy - James V. Wow! The price of these dvds has realy shot down since there first release. I remember going to the stores the same day that they were released and paying about fourty five to fifety dollars for the season and I couldn't wait for each following season to come out, I spent a lot of dollars on these seasons, but it is truly worth it when you can find a program that you love to watch over and over again. Season 3-4 are definitely my favorite seasons to watch, and the picture quality of the dvds are absolutely remarkable. It is 10X better than watching I love Lucy on regular tv and you can definitely tell the difference when I love Lucy comes on cable tv. I have wondered if they will actually start making these sets in color and it is a big possibility for the future. I mean I love the black... This is my all=time favorite season. When the Ricardo & Mertz's go to Hollywood these are my favorite ones and they make me laugh the most. I think this is when the series was at its best. Lucy gets into such trouble and somehow finds a way out of it all. More Info about this DVD Director(s): Ralph Levy - James V. I Love Lucy: The Complete Fifth Season finds Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball) making an international mess out of husband Ricky's globe-trotting tour as an entertainer. Beginning with "Lucy Visits Grauman's" and "Lucy and John Wayne," the impulsive redhead risks Ricky's sanity in Hollywood by stealing a cement slab, from the famous entrance to Grauman's Chinese Theater, that contains the imprint of John Wayne's footprints and signature. In the tradition of superstars playing themselves on I Love Lucy, an exasperated (and very funny) Wayne gets into the act over and over and over again, making new imprints on multiple slabs because Lucy keeps messing up the results. After more shenanigans in Los Angeles (Lucy attends a ritzy party with a dummy substituting for her unavailable... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Ralph Levy - James V. The sixth and final season of I Love Lucy finds new laughs in some old formulas while also expanding the hugely popular shows horizons with a change of scene. Things get off to a familiar start when Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball) gets in the middle of husband Rickys business--in this case, disguising herself as a hot dog salesman at Yankee Stadium in order to get near Bob Hope. Hope, she believes, has ignored Rickys offer to be the first act at his new nightclub. But, in fact, Hope had already agreed; Ricky was just sitting on the information to keep Lucy from getting typically ditzy in front of one of his celebrity pals. Not surprisingly, mayhem follows when poor Hope finds his hand slathered with condiments and his noggin bonked by a foul ball. Other celebrity...
