    Independence Day (Limited Edition) DVD

In Independence Day, a scientist played by Jeff Goldblum once actually had a fistfight with a man (Bill Pullman) who is now president of the United States. That same president, late in the film, personally flies a jet fighter to deliver a payload of missiles against an attack by extraterrestrials. Independence Day is the kind of movie so giddy with its own outrageousness that one doesn't even blink at such howlers in the plot. Directed by Roland Emmerich, Independence Day is a pastiche of conventions from flying-saucer movies from the 1940s and 1950s, replete with icky monsters and bizarre coincidences that create convenient shortcuts in the story. (Such as the way the girlfriend of one of the film's heroes--played by Will Smith--just happens to run across the... More Info about this DVD

Jurassic Park (Widescreen Collector's Edition) DVD

Steven Spielberg's 1993 mega-hit rivals Jaws as the most intense and frightening film he'd ever made prior to Schindler's List, but it was also among his weakest stories. Based on Michael Crichton's novel about an island amusement park populated by cloned dinosaurs, the film works best as a thrill ride with none of the interesting human dynamics of Spielberg's Jaws. That lapse proves unfortunate, but there's no shortage of raw terror as a rampaging T-rex and nasty raptors try to make fast food out of the cast. The effects are still astonishing (despite the fact that the computer-generated technology has since been improved upon) and at times primeval, such as the sight of a herd of whatever-they-are scampering through a valley. --Tom Keogh More Info about this DVD

Rush Hour (New Line Platinum Series) DVD

The plot line may sound familiar: Two mismatched cops are assigned as reluctant partners to solve a crime. Culturally they are complete opposites, and they quickly realize they can't stand each other. One (Jackie Chan) believes in doing things by the book. He is a man with integrity and nerves of steel. The other (Chris Tucker) is an amiable rebel who can't stand authority figures. He's a man who has to do everything on his own, much to the displeasure of his superior officer, who in turn thinks this cop is a loose cannon but tolerates him because he gets the job done. Directed by Brett Ratner, Rush Hour doesn't break any new ground in terms of story, stunts, or direction. It rehashes just about every "buddy" movie ever made--in fact, it makes films such as Tango and Cash... More Info about this DVD

The Fifth Element (Ultimate Edition) DVD

Ancient curses, all-powerful monsters, shape-changing assassins, scantily-clad stewardesses, laser battles, huge explosions, a perfect woman, a malcontent hero--what more can you ask of a big-budget science fiction movie? Luc Besson's high-octane film incorporates presidents, rock stars, and cab drivers into its peculiar plot, traversing worlds and encountering some pretty wild aliens. Bruce Willis stars as a down-and-out cabbie who must win the love of Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) to save Earth from destruction by Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg (Gary Oldman) and a dark, unearthly force that makes Darth Vader look like an Ewok. --Geoff Riley More Info about this DVD

The Mummy Collection - The Mummy / The Mummy Returns (Widescreen Edition) DVD

Stephen Somers did a fantastic job directing this movie! Somers take on The Mummy is set in the 1920's because, adds Somers, "...it's the most romantic era." The principal photography was set in Morocco in May 1998. Hamunaptra "The City of the Dead" was built near the Moroccan town of Erfoud. The set took sixteen weeks to be constructed. Also the visual effects in this movie are nothing short of amazing. Especially watching Imhotep slowly regenerate himself.
The story starts in Thebes "City of the Living", crown jewel of the pharaoh Sete the first, home of Imhotep (pharaoh's high priest), and the birthplace of Anck-su-namun (the pharaoh's mistress & Imhotep's true love). No man was to touch Anck-su-namun under the pharaoh's orders, but Imhotep risked life to be with the woman he... More Info about this DVD
