Max Dugan Returns is a good movie that stars Marsha Mason, Donald Sutherland, Jason Robards and Matthew Broderick and they were all great! Max Dugan's Return is about a single mother (Marsha Mason) and her teenage son played by Matthew Broderick and how their lives get really complicated when her father who she hasn't seen since she was a child and he walked out on her family suddenly reappears on her doorstep and gives them expensive gifts which makes her boyfriend who is a cop suspicious. I'm so pleased that this movie is finally on DVD!
Very enjoyable comedy
Snappy little Neil Simon comedy about a long-lost father (Jason Robards) who is dying, who suddenly decides to make up for the lost years by showering his daughter and grandson with money and presents, gotten through embezzlement in Las Vegas. Sweet and light, not very deep - but most entertaining. With Marsha Mason as the daughter and Donald Sutherland as her cop boyfriend who finally figures out where the money's coming from and is torn between love and duty. Matthew Broderick is the grandson (his debut). Worth a watch.
FINALLY!
It isn't the best transfer in the world, but it is still such a treat that this funny, wonderful little fable has finally arrived on DVD. The story is simple and perhaps even slight, but this Neil Simon comedy, one he wrote directly for the screen, boasts one of his most enjoyable scripts, terrific performances, witty dialogue and a heartfelt message without in anyway being sentimental. The sparks and chemistry between Jason Robards and Marsha Mason erupt in every scene and the supporting cast, which includes Donald Sutherland and Matthew Broderick in his first film role, is stellar.
The original publicity used the line, 'Everybody needs a little Max Dugan. Indeed! Get it and enjoy.
Not short on murder, mayhem, or any other screwball '70s conventions, Foul Play is a wonderful vehicle for Goldie Hawn. She plays Gloria, a librarian "ready to take a chance again," who ends up the target of an assassination ring. Chevy Chase, fresh off of Saturday Night Live, does the closest thing to real acting he would ever achieve (okay, maybe Fletch) as Tony, the cop assigned to protect Gloria. Dudley Moore made an indelible impression on American audiences as Stanley Tibbets, a surprisingly kinky symphony conductor. But it's the quirky things that make this film: the grandmothers playing Scrabble with expletives, Burgess Meredith's snake Esme, the old Japanese couple in the back of the careening limo. From the opening credits with Barry Manilow crooning the... This is a surprisingly winning little comedy, though hardly a hit. Extrapolated from Bruno Barreto's Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands, the film stars Sally Field as a woman about to embark on her second marriage after her first husband, a charismatic Broadway director and choreographer (James Caan), has died. But as she plans her wedding to the likable but unexciting Jeff Bridges, Caan returns from the dead. Though only she can see him, it's a formula for disaster: She begins to doubt her plans and wonders whether she'd be happier with Caan's ghost than with Bridges's live body. Meanwhile, everyone else begins to doubt her sanity because she's talking to a dead man. Better than critics gave it credit for being, although you'll probably enjoy it more if you've never seen the original.... Delightful romantic comedy benefits from a top-notch script (by Max Shulman and Julius Epstein-co-writer of "Casablanca"!), and the unexpected chemistry between lovable schlump Matthau and starchy Jackson, who are both fabulous. Affirming once again that true love will triumph over casual sex, "Calls" is a charming, clever romance, with plenty of laughs and heart. Matthau fans should flock to this.
Actually, this comedy is one of the more enjoyable films to examine midlife crisis in the 1980s. Written and directed by Alan Alda, it examines the effects of middle age on a group of married couples who are longtime friends. Each season they go away on a vacation together, but the dynamic gets skewed when one of the men dumps his wife for a younger woman. Though some may find the characters' self-satisfaction and upscale neuroses a shade cloying, they are more than matched by Alda's solid, often funny writing. The couple with the biggest laughs: the hilariously paired Jack Weston and Rita Moreno (although Alda and Carol Burnett also strike comic sparks). --Marshall FineMore Info about this DVD Actor(s): Alan Alda - Carol Burnett Director(s): Alan Alda DVD Release Date: Released the 31 May 2005 Usually ships in 24 hours

Despite the presence of hack director Arthur Hiller, this hybrid comedy-thriller works most of the time as pleasant faux Hitchcock. Gene Wilder is a book editor who is relaxing by taking a cross-country train ride. Then he gets caught up in a murder--and becomes a suspect. It's up to him to prove his own innocence. As noted, the script, by Colin Higgins, owes a big debt to Alfred Hitchcock; but the mystery isn't all that mysterious and the comedy isn't all that hilarious--at least not until Richard Pryor shows up, which is at least halfway through the film. Things definitely pick up from there. Jill Clayburgh, as the love interest, is merely along for the train ride. Wilder and Pryor eventually teamed up for several other films, but they were never as funny together as they are in this...
