Review(s): DVD Batman - The Animated Series, Volume Three (DC Comics Classic Collection)
Batman and Robin's Best Volume Yet

I think this was Batman and Robin's best volume yet. I was cheering as soon as I got this volume. Batman and Robin's final 28 episodes. This volume also introduced some new characters such as Ras Al Ghoul and Batgirl. If you like the first two you will love this one. So don't forget to look for The Adventures of Batman and Robin Volume 3 in stores today!

    Finished with a bang!

This is probably the best of all three seasons. Definately don't miss this one if you liked the other two.

    Perfection/Completion

Volume Three of "Batman--The Animated Series" completes the original arc of the DC/Warner series, originally aired on Fox (switching to the WB) in the early 1990s. In looking at the animated series, it seems to bridge the 1989 Batman movie and Batman Begins. It also goes far in wiping out the memories of Adam West in the 1960s, the animated Batman cells of that same period, and the SuperFriends' Batman.
Being blunt, this was less cartoon and more animated story telling at it's finest; tales told in about 25 minutes with vocal acting that enhanced the story. Credit has to be paid to Paul Dini and the crew that worked on this show--they never let it revert to the campiness of the '60s series, nor did they redo Tim Burton's work in '89 nor 1992. The Animated Series carved a very distinct niche--it was The Batman drawn less for children and more for adults who had followed the character.
Let's face it--if you have watched The Animated Series, the Batman:Gotham Knights episodes, or the Justice League; we know this--Kevin Conroy's voice fits Batman/Bruce Wayne perfectly. Conroy catches the gravel and danger befitting an emotionally scarred vigilante in such a way that--and it can only be said like this--Conroy's voice is the one voice that IS Batman's. Take nothing away from Mark Hamill's Joker or Adrienne Barbeau's Catwoman, but it is Conroy's voice that drives the series and makes the tone and the art of it work.
Volume Three introduces the Barbara Gordon Batgirl, and also introduces Ra's Al-Ghul to those less familiar with the Rogue's Gallery. Also, Bane is brought in--obviously, not as formidable as he was in the "Knightfall" arc.
All three editions of "BTAS" are quality television; again made more for adult viewing than for children. Highly suggested.

Superman - The Animated Series, Volume One (DC Comics Classic Collection) DVD

From the creators of Batman: The Animated Series comes DC Comics' polar opposite: the Man of Steel in Superman: The Animated Series, Volume One. Like the Dark Knight's series, Superman: The Animated Series is a successful, modern telling of the classic story. Superman's tale is already known to most people, enduring as a modern American myth. The challenge for the producers was how to make something old and familiar new again. Quite successfully, they managed to modernize the Superman environment and its characters enough to attract a new audience but also maintained the integrity of the mythos to satisfy longtime fans. What lifts Superman: The Animated Series above all past Superman shows is its high-quality animation, strong dramatic scripts, a star studded... More Info about this DVD

Batman - The Animated Series, Volume Four (From the New Batman Adventures) (DC Comics Classic Collection) DVD

Contrary to the reviewers who thought this was cheap animation, I didn't notice, maybe because it's not my field and I don't examine a work for its state of the art methodology or technology. I took it at face value and it met up with my standards. The sound was even okay. I'm pretty happy with the amount of entertainment wrapped up in this package. More Info about this DVD

Batman - The Animated Series, Volume One (DC Comics Classic Collection) DVD

Warner Brothers' Batman: The Animated Series (1992-1995) remains a striking, stylized program that helped to revitalize the familiar comic book hero. Drawing on such diverse influences as Frank Miller's graphic novel The Dark Knight Returns, the Fleischers' Superman cartoons of the early '40s, and contemporary Japanese animation, the filmmakers stress interesting designs and cinematography. The Caped Crusader prowls a sinister, Art Deco-styled world of tall verticals, sharp angles, silhouettes, searchlights, and grid-like shadows cast by window frames. Its visual pizzazz eclipses Filmation's pallid kidvid, The Batman/Superman Hour (CBS, 1968), which ran off and on in various incarnations through 1981. Many of the same artists worked on the Batman animated... More Info about this DVD

Batman Begins (Two-Disc Deluxe Edition) DVD

Batman Begins discards the previous four films in the series and recasts the Caped Crusader as a fearsome avenging angel. That's good news, because the series, which had gotten off to a rousing start under Tim Burton, had gradually dissolved into self-parody by 1997's Batman & Robin. As the title implies, Batman Begins tells the story anew, when Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) flees Western civilization following the murder of his parents. He is taken in by a mysterious instructor named Ducard (Liam Neeson in another mentor role) and urged to become a ninja in the League of Shadows, but he instead returns to his native Gotham City resolved to end the mob rule that is strangling it. But are there forces even more sinister at hand?
