Review(s): DVD Disney's Timeless Tales, Vol. 1 - The Prince and the Pauper/Three Little Pigs/The Tortoise and the Hare
Great!
I bought this for my almost 3yr old twins, and from the first showing, I kept hearing giggling and laughing as they watched the cartoons. My girls already are familiar with some fairy tales, so they really loved "The Three Little Pigs" and "The Pied Piper". I highly recommend this DVD and think it is a great buy for parents with young children.
Unrestored re-release of shorts from the TIN releases.
***** Five Stars for the cartoons themselves! I give the low *** three start rating because WE ALREADY HAVE THEM ON DVD!
This is a cheaply put-together re-release of shorts mostly from other DISNEY TREASURES TIN releases.
1)PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1990) also on the Micky Mouse In Living Color Volume #2 TIN DVD release. That version is widescreen, this presentation is CROPPED.
2)THREE LITTLE PIGS (1933) also on the Silly Symphonies TIN DVD release.
3)TORTOISE AND THE HARE (1935) also on the Silly Symphonies TIN DVD release.
4) THE GRASSHOPPER AND THE ANTS (1934) also on the Silly Symphonies TIN DVD release.
5)THE PIED PIPER (1933) previously presented on DVD in B&W on the "Best of the Mickey Mouse Club" DVD collection. This is its first time in color on DVD.
With the TIN DVD releases on limited availability, I guess Disney hopes those who missed out will buy these 5-cartoon discs. The low price is misleading, when you break it down to individual cartoon cost this release is EXPENSIVE!
And no extras!

Worry not, Disney fans--this special edition DVD of the beloved Cinderella won't turn into a pumpkin at the strike of midnight. One of the most enduring animated films of all time, the Disney-fied adaptation of the gory Brothers Grimm fairy tale became a classic in its own right, thanks to some memorable tunes (including "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes," "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo," and the title song) and some endearingly cute comic relief.
Don Bluth's 1978 animated short,, "THE SMALL ONE" makes its long awaited DVD debut in this series...only to be DRASTICALLY EDITED so as to not offend certain people and to minimize the intended religious connotations of this timeless tale.
The bankers' song (Click Click, Clank Clank...Give your money to the bank) has been edited to remove the line "we simply cheat a little if we must" so the PC freaks at Disney can cover their behinds so as to not offend the Jews. In additon, the ENTIRE "Small One for sale" sequence is deleted....

I've been a bit tough on some of these recent Disney collections due to the fact that all or most of the shorts were already appearing on the Disney Treasures sets and so getting those were a much better value. But in this case, only three of these are on those Treasures sets and each is on a different one so it makes this a definite one to pick up. Certaintly they will eventually be on the Treasures editions but until then I would recommend this set. Be advised that even though it says holiday celebration not all of these shorts really have a holiday theme. Some are simply shorts that take place in the winter.

Halloween can be a frightening time of year for piglets and young Heffalumps, but the power of unconditional friendship should never be underestimated. When a fierce "Gobloon" and an absence of candy threaten to ruin Lumpy's first trick-or-treating experience, Roo and Lumpy set out to capture the Gobloon and save Halloween. As the scared pair journeys toward the tree of terror, the pair reflects on Piglet's mastery of his fear of Halloween and begins to realize that togetherness empowers them. Perhaps true friendship can triumph over an evil Gobloon--even if the Gobloon does have the power to turn its pursuers into "jaggedy lanterns." But, what will happen when Roo and Lumpy become separated? French and Spanish language tracks are included on this DVD and bonus features include an... I was hoping for a great collection of vintage and rare Mickey Mouse cartoons. That's not what I got. Steam Boat Willy was shown with a large black boarder surrounding the cartoon. I assume it was so the entire frame could be seen. Cartoons two and three were complete rare sound films. However the remaining cartoons were not original prints. The openings were created electronically. The cartoons were very enjoyable but don't expect a collection of all original prints.
