    Review(s): DVD Casper - A Spirited Beginning
I Liked It More Than I Liked The Bill Pullman, Christina Ricci movie!

I watched the original theatrical movie that starred Christina Ricci and Bill Pullman, I watched it on a video tape and while that was a good movie I also liked this prequel movie which I first saw on TV. I actually like this more than the Christina Ricci movie, It is a cute movie and stars two of my favorite actors Steve Guttenburg, and Lori Loughlin and I really didn't find this movie to be disappointing at all. It is totally cute and charming!

    A bad prequal

The first Casper was a fun movie which I liked alot. After its success someone had the idea lets make a cheesy prequal with inferior effects that doesn't tie in with the first movie at all. In the first movie it says that ghosts scar because of emotion trama in this ghost scar because they are taken to some school to learn how to. Not a good vision of the afterlife is it. It also like I said before has terrible effects. They should have made a sequal with orginal cast and original effects quality. But this is awful.

    A Stupid Begining

To start out with, this is another one of those typical, cheap, grownups-are-stupid; kids-are-smart movies. This is nothing like the first movie. If this is how it all began then it does not tie in with the feature film Casper the Friendly Ghost.

How can a ten-year-old boy, who is in the 4th grade, be smarter than his 40-year-old-dad, who is a successful architect? What happened to Casper's father, who lived in a completely other part of the country, and the big scary mansion? It doesn't make any sense. This is a disgrace to the friendly phantom.

The acting in this movie is at an all time low. They got low paid actors for a low paid movie. All of the horrible acting, sets, story, and CG make this movie the definition of a terrible movie. Should you watch this junk you will discover the dreadfulness of this piece of trash.

    Casper (Widescreen Special Edition) DVD

This 1995 family film tries to put a fun spin on the story of a paranormalist and widower (Bill Pullman) who moves into a new house with his daughter (Christina Ricci) and meets up with the ghost of a dead little boy. Based on the comic book about Casper the friendly ghost, the film is a dreary series of awkward interactions between live actors and computer effects, and you can almost see Pullman and Ricci reconsidering the project while on camera. A few cameo appearances from uncredited stars help things a bit. But there's no way, based on this film, that one could have guessed that its director, Brad Silberling, would go on to make the exceptional drama City of Angels. --Tom Keogh More Info about this DVD

    Casper Meets Wendy DVD

The creepiest thing about Casper Meets Wendy is the title characters' romance--bashful, cutie pie Casper shouldn't be prone to weaknesses of the flesh (he is, after all, a ghost). And he's entirely too childlike to take up with a witch even of Wendy's decidedly non-wicked order. Still, sparks fly in this madcap jumble of a film, and so do the sort of zippy one-liners and presto-type magic tricks that'll keep kids from 6 to 12 spellbound. The plot is paper-thin: head honcho warlock Desmond Spellman (George Hamilton) is obsessed with offing Wendy (Hilary Duff) after an oracle proclaims her powers to be on the upswing. He sends two goons to capture her at the Sunny Brite resort, where she and her haggish aunts (Teri Garr, Cathy Moriarty, and Shelley Duvall) are in hiding and where... More Info about this DVD

    Casper's Haunted Christmas DVD

Since the film debut of "Casper the Friendly Ghost" in 1945, the Casper franchise, which has been trying to put a happy spin on the paranormal, has received a mixed bag of reviews. There's no doubt the wide-eyed little ghost is endearing, but his heyday may have ended with his series in Harvey Comics. In this direct-to-video animated movie, the haunted world of spooks meets the happy spirit of Christmas--a faulty premise to begin with. The plot gets even more absurd when Kibosh, supreme ruler of all ghosts, declares that Casper's "scare quota" is way down. To avoid serious repercussions, Casper must scare at least one person before Christmas Day, or he will be banished to the dark side. Talk about a merry holiday tale! To force the fear factor, Kibosh catapults Casper and the Ghostly Trio... More Info about this DVD

Casper and Wendy's Ghostly Adventures DVD

For devoted Casper fans with fond memories of Harvey Comics' Friendly Ghost, here's a nostalgic collection of classic 1950s Casper cartoons certain to lift one's, well, spirits. Not to be confused with the more recent live-action Casper movies (a mixed bag ranging from dreary to dreadful), this blast from the past forgives such modern-day misfires. The 82-minute program opens with Winston Sharples's original theme song and then launches into 14 ghostly tales with playful titles such as "To Boo or Not to Boo" and "Boo Ribbon Winner." The endearing little ghost (drawn in vintage animation), along with his mischievous alter ego, Spooky, and spirited pal Wendy, are involved in pint-sized dilemmas wrapped in sweet moral messages happily sewn up in a quick six minutes. Viewers of all ages will... More Info about this DVD
