I saw this film many months ago at the Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. Yes the guys are very hot! But the film is also a lot of fun. Director and writer Q. Allan Brocka has a way of making films with twists and turns and not merely predictable plots with ending you would expect 10 minutes into the film. This film is at times sweet and endearing, but it still has Brocka's dark and caustic edges too, producing some quite stinging and sharp lines. Numerous times I was howling with laughter after what some character said. Great film!
Hot boys Bad Movie
This is another one of those gay movies that has a bad script, and bad acting.....but hot boys, in this case two of them go full frontal. I saw this in the movies last week where it is playing at the Quad in NYC. It is an ok movie, I wouldnt say dont see it.....but watch it for the boys nudity! Thats really its only redeeming quality
Pre-Judgement
Well, from all the reviews I've read of this film already, despite the fact it hasn't been brought out yet, and I haven't seen it, it's gonna be pretty good, certainly.
An indie comedy, it sees the exploits of a man, pretending to be gay so that he can hook up with a girl who enjoys pursuing gay men (for some reason). However, there are multiple plot twists and apparently a slightly unexpected ending. But the main reason I give this film four stars is that it has Ryan Carnes in, who has recently been seen as 'Justin' in Desperate Housewives. In this film he is playing a(nother) gay guy, technically his first role, but everyone's seen him in DH now, so I guess it might not count. Whatever. He's hot. Full stop.
Despite a slow weird beginning I enjoyed this movie more than words can say. It was funny weird, thought pervoking and it left me feeling really good despite some real life situations that were not always happy. I could identify with the mormon dude since I know well his pain having come from a strict hardcore Bible Thumping BAPTIST family myself. Trust me "Baptist's" are no more accepting or tolerant of gays or gay friendly folk than the religious neanderthals seen in this movie.
Despite the religious homophobic downers this was my kind of movie it had a happy ending I could honestly beleive. This movie left me happy and filled with hope. The unrated version has the steamier sex scene but what you see is pretty tame by todays standards. I would not recommend this... "Straight Jacket" is an adaptation of a stage play but unfortunately too much of it has been left stagebound. The overacting, exaggerated gestures, cutesy dialogue may work on stage but it all seems rather clunky and forced as a movie. The writers and director should have streamlined it a bit more for film. One of the worst, cringe-inducing parts comes early when the main character hops around chanting, "I'm gonna be Ben Hur..."; talk about awkwardly placed. The entire movie suffers from similar supposed-to-be-funny-but-not-really antics.
There are two stand-outs in the cast: Jack Plotnick is as funny as ever, and I enjoy seeing Veronica Cartwright in anything.
Not as much fun as "Girls will be Girls."

Almost worth getting for the hotness that is Brendan Fehr, plus the unexpected cutie Andre Noble (which I wouldn't have thought so much from the cover); however, their isn't nearly enough skin shown by the two. Plus, the one sex scene between them typifies the entire movie for me: far more brutal and corse than beautiful and endearing.
If you think you're getting a tender coming of age/boy's first time movie where he falls in love and recuses the down and out hustler guy with lots (as in more than one excuse for) sex scenes, then you're in for a BIG disappointment.
None of which is to say its a bad movie. The little sister Cookie is a total hoot and probably the most interesting character overall actually. Queer As Folk fans will recognize Cliff's wonderful Mother as being... More Info about this DVD Director(s): John Palmer DVD Release Date: Released the 16 November 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours

This is another film I purchased without knowing a thing about it, and wound up being quite glad I did. The premise of this film had me on the edge of my seat from the very first gut-wrenching conflict, in a film that was filled to the brim with gut-wrenching conflicts. The acting of both principals in this essentially two-character piece was first rate, and helped to elevate it high above most standard gay-themed fare. But what really made this picture superior to 90% of the gay titles I've purchased in the past year was the confrontation of real issues that gay men should be discussing, but frequently shy away from. Without giving away the plot, let me say that almost every minute of the taught, carefully crafted script is imbued with thoughtful discussion on issues that are all to...
