  • DVD Laguna Beach - The Complete First Season

Branded as "The real Orange County," this tepid yet easily addictive MTV series follows a group of wealthy high schoolers from Laguna Beach, California. Their lives are almost too perfect to be real: good looks, houses by the beach, even close relationships with their parents. They shop, plan parties, and get brand-new cars wrapped in a bow for graduation (and you thought that only happened in commercials!). But it's a reality show packaged as a teen soap.

At the center of season 1 is the love triangle between good-girl narrator LC, her childhood friend Stephen, and his beautiful but cold girlfriend Kristin, who likes to mention at any chance possible how much she "hates" LC. Other highlights for the seniors include spring break in Cabo, birthday bashes, one character's embarrassing audition for a Broadway show, and the repetitive mantra of "Can you believe this is the last time we'll be together like this?"

One's envy of young rich kids who are just like you--but not--is certainly what Laguna Beach likes to tap into (you find out they even have weekly O.C. viewing parties!). Unfortunately, it's also what makes it so vanilla. Since there aren't producers auditioning the most colorful personalities to home-grow drama, you're left with pals so alike you get them confused. Not only that, their "conflicts"--limited to gossip and drunk confrontations--don't really make for great television, at least by the reality-TV standards we're used to. But kids who thrive on the gossip of their own friends will likely continue chatting about this show like it's their own high school.

DVD features include an MTV cribs-type tour of LC's massive mansion (still being built in season 1) and many deleted scenes, which include the technical glitch that got Morgan into BYU (see? It's not just money) and Trey's argument with a midget. --Ellen Kim

Review(s): DVD Laguna Beach - The Complete First Season
    ok

this show is ok.I think it is mostly rich people flaunting off their richnest to everyone who doesn't really care. For all you other jerks bad mouthing this show, try watching it first and not just judging it on what the box says.

Better watching it on tv, one episode at a time...

I rented this season through netflix and I fell asleep after trying to watch it for about an hour. In all seriousness, it is a pretty boring show if you watch too much of it at once. I think the second season is way better as well. The cast in this season is pretty boring, shallow, and self-centered.

Laguna Beach - a chrismukkah miracle

If you are looking for a TV-Serie talking about rich kids, California sun, surf, good music, drama and comedy... I recommend The O.C.
If you haven't seen The O.C., that must be your first choice. If you have seen The O.C., wait for next season instead of wasting your money and time on this new "thing" called Laguna Beach. Even Josh Schwartz (creator of The O.C.) laughs about this serie on the DVD collection of Orange County first season when he's been asked!

Do they really call Laguna Beach "The real Orange County"? Just can't believe they made it to the second season!
I think Seth Cohen was right, Chrismukkah miracles exist!

Laguna Beach - The Complete Second Season DVD

Laguna Beach, the MTV hit about real-life rich kids in the coastal Orange County town, is too real to be a soap opera and too fake to be a reality series--and therein lies the rub. At least if Laguna Beach were a scripted drama, you could buy the suspended disbelief that a crush would just happen to appear in front of you as you're saying, "I wonder what he thinks about me." Or if it were truly a reality series, you can forgive the repeated exclamations of "This is going to be soooo fun, I am soo excited, you guys!" But because producers pull one too many puppet strings to heighten drama and add exposition, the sudsy guilty pleasure can be hard to watch. After all, how many times in a week can two guys pause in the middle of skateboarding to discuss their feelings?... More Info about this DVD

The O.C. - The Complete Second Season DVD

The drama was poured on aplenty in the second season of The O.C., as the sun-dappled denizens of Orange County found their lives massively upended and then some. At the end of the first season, the Cohen household had been reduced to two--parents Sandy and Kirsten (Peter Gallagher and Kelly Rowan)--as the boys had flown the coop, moody Ryan (Benjamin McKenzie) back to Chino and goofy Seth (Adam Brody) for the wide expanse of the Pacific (somehow ending up in Portland, Oregon). Once the prodigal sons returned home, thanks to a lot of persuading, both tried to mend relationships with their former girlfriends, Marissa (Mischa Barton) and Summer (Rachel Bilson). While friendships were solidified, everyone was dating someone else: Seth was with sultry club manager Alex (Olivia Wilde),... More Info about this DVD

One Tree Hill - The Complete Second Season DVD

One Tree Hill: The Complete Second Season finds life in an uproar for virtually every major and minor character in the WB series set in One Tree, North Carolina. Basketball sensation Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray), illegitimate son of One Tree Hill's resident J.R.-like figure, car dealer, and all-around monster Dan Scott (Paul Johansson), has left town with his Uncle Keith (Craig Sheffer) to start a new life. (Keith himself has split One Tree to nurse a broken heart after his marriage proposal to Lucas's mom, Karen, played by Moira Kelly, was rejected.) It's not long, however, before Lucas has second thoughts, prompted in part by Dan's recent heart attack and the mess he (Lucas) left behind with two girls, Peyton (Hilarie Burton) and Brooke (Sophia Bush). Meanwhile,... More Info about this DVD

The O.C. - The Complete First Season DVD

It looked like a standard teen soap on the outside, but once you scratched the surface of the glittery, sun-dappled Fox drama The O.C., you'd find underneath a number of surprisingly well-developed characters, fun plots that played around with their soap conventions, and some of the wittiest dialogue this side of an Aaron Sorkin show. The setup was pure high concept: hunky, brooding Ryan (Benjamin McKenzie) was a good kid from Chino starting to go bad, and thanks to the interference of his lawyer, Sandy Cohen (Peter Gallagher), finds himself whisked away from the wrong side of the tracks to the mansions and manicured lawns of Orange County. Soon, Ryan finds himself living in the Cohens' pool house, involved with troubled rich girl Marissa (Mischa Barton), and bristling against the... More Info about this DVD
