Review(s): DVD Thundercats - Season One, Volume One
THUNDERRUBBISH!! HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
C'MON, ITS THE 2000'S, WE CAN HAVE IT ALL! - SO, IN CASE YOU WONDER IF ITS WORTH THE MONEY, EVEN IF YOU DONT MIND THE HORRIBLE QUALITY OR THE LACK OF DOLBY/5.1 BECAUSE OF "THE-MORE-IT-RESEMBLES-THE-OLD-STUFF-THE-BETTER", WELL:
NO
Great show...DVD set not as bad as some people say....
While I agree on the general feeling around here that Warner did a sub par effort with this release, I still think it is still well worth getting.
Yes "Exodus" is not in it's original form and is not remastered correctly. And yes "The Unholy Alliance" is missing the soundtrack.
But to say that EVERY episode is not remastered is simply wrong. I have compared old tapes that I have to the DVDs and there is a clear improvement on the DVD set. Colors are more vibrant and the picture is much sharper...
Having said that the set has problems (hence only 4 stars). Some people I guess have different tolerance levels when it comes to products such as DVDs. For me I can still immensely enjoy the set despite it's problems. And since I also have "Exodus" on VHS, the biggest problem for me is the missing soundtrack on episode 2. The rest of the set is flawless as far as I can see.
So if you were a big fan of the show and don't mind the price tag, I definitely recommend this set.
Not As Bad As I Thought
After reading some of the reviews about how poor the quality of the Thundercats DVDs are, I was reluctant to purchase the set in light of the $50 purchase price. However, I could not resist and finally gave in.
Perhaps my expectations were low after reading so much negative feedback about the quality, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was not nearly as bad as I imagined. You can tell it has not been remastered, but it does not detract at all from the episodes...it's just like watching it on T.V. for the first time. Would it have been nice if WB digitally remastered the episodes (like the He-Man DVD set)...yes. However, they did not (and probably will not, now), so make the best of it. You get to watch the first half season of the Thundercats! If you're a fan of the show, the $50 purchase price may just be worth it, especially if WB stops production and the price sky-rockets afterwards.
For those of you who are concerned about the 2nd episode not having a sound track, I purchased my set from amazon.com very recently and my set did not have any problems.

When I was four years old I was totally in love with He-man. I had He-Man bedsheets, He-Man curtains, He-Man action figures, He-Man play sets, a plastic He-Man sword... you get the idea.
The one thing I didn't have was any He-Man videos, and believe me, I would have bought them. The world loved He-Man, but the world has a short attention span, and gradually He-Man began to age.
But you know how this story ends. Mattel, after 20 years, has finally decided to release He-Man on DVD, just as they are now releasing every TV show you have ever heard of (and some you haven't). I stared, slack-jawed, upon the box labeled "The Best of He-Man". It was the ten best episodes. I knew at once, I had to have it.
Actually, I come to find out, He-Man was fairly revolutionary. It was the... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Bill Reed - Lou Zukor - Rich Trueblood - Gwen Wetzler - Lou Kachivas DVD Release Date: Released the 12 July 2005 Usually ships in 24 hours

I thought I was the only one with scratched discs. I see others having the same problem as me. Beware, some discs come out of the box with scratches on them and they freeze at certain points of the episode. Very Frustrating! Luckily I can copy the damaged discs using dvd-x-copy software and it plays like new. Other than that, awesome quality and extras. I think this was Batman and Robin's best volume yet. I was cheering as soon as I got this volume. Batman and Robin's final 28 episodes. This volume also introduced some new characters such as Ras Al Ghoul and Batgirl. If you like the first two you will love this one. Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four animated series (1994-95)--depicting the first family of superheroes--got significantly better as it went along. The series always had good intentions, borrowing plots, concepts, characters, and even lines of dialogue from the classic Stan Lee-Jack Kirby comic books that kicked off the Marvel age of comics. And it was willing to spend two or even three episodes on a single story line. The early episodes, however, had serious drawbacks, such as a clumsy animation style (the Silver Surfer never looked less noble), weak humor (the origin episode created a framing sequence in which the FF appears on the Dick Cavett Show), and an awful theme song by Giorgio Moroder (Flashdance, Top Gun). Fortunately, the animation improved in the... More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 05 July 2005 Usually ships in 24 hours
