  • DVD The Nanny - The Complete First Season

Sony brings to DVD the first season of this one-of-a-kind sitcom starring Fran Drescher as the warm-hearted, nasal-voiced nanny from Queens who lands a job caring for three children of a wealthy, widowed Broadway producer from Manhattan. During the show’s six-year run (1993-1999), Drescher dazzles as Fran Fine in a role she created and developed (as writer and producer in several episodes) and obviously relishes, whether she’s flirting, whining, sparring, or showcasing her sensational wardrobe. The three-disc collection features 22 episodes beginning with "The Pilot," when Fran knocks on the Sheffield’s door and is mistakenly hired as their new nanny, establishing the show’s shtick of "blue collar meets blue blood." Immediate chemistry between Nanny Fine and Maxwell Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy, "Days of Our Lives") fuels the storylines while the sarcastic repartee of Sheffield’s assistant, C.C. Babcock (Lauren Lane) and Niles the Butler (Daniel Davis) further ignites the entertainment. Season highlights include "The Butler, the Husband, the Wife, and Her Mother," when the family enters a parallel universe in a hilarious turn of events; and "Imaginary Friend," the season’s turning point where Drescher’s physical comedy (inspired by Lucille Ball) is given free reign. Celebrity guests include Carol Channing, Cloris Leachman, and Patti LaBelle (in the finale). Don’t miss the bonus material: a heartwarming "making-of" retrospective with the cast, and Drescher’s audio commentary during "I Don’t Remember Mama." Mild profanity and sexual innuendo. Review(s): DVD The Nanny - The Complete First Season
oy....i am so happy with this dvd release

I was accidentally get known from this sitcom. and once I watched one of the episode I was completely excited. I immediately searched for dvd or vhs at that time, however they didn't release any. Until now they release the first season. It was like finding a precious diamond. Well, it is much more happy than finding a rare diamond. Thanks so much for the one who publishing this dvd. Hope the second season comes soon. : )

    Oh Mr Sheffield

Thank the powers that be at Sony and CBS for releasing Season one of the Nanny to DVD!This 22 episode DVD setof almost nine hours (515 minutes) was so quickly watched it seemed like pop corn.

If you can get over Fran Drescher nasal whiney twang, this set showcases great timing with an ensemble cast.

My two favorite episodes are "Ode to Barbara Joan" Which CC's father (Robert Culp) reunited with CC with Fran's help and "The Gym Teach where Maggie faces Fran's old gym Teacher (Rita Moreno) and Maxwell faces an actor who treated him like dirty. Both on disk three. However these two gems arent the only one who sparkle...they all do

So, someone wake me when The Nanny season two comes, I want to be first in line for the laughes

    She's Nasalicious

I have been collecting several TV shows on DVD (since there is nothing to watch anymore now that reality TV has taken over)and I picked this one up because it was always my mom's favorite . . . although I enjoyed it too. Isn't it nice when you can buy a family member a birthday gift that you wanted . . . two birds one stone. Anyway . . . I had forgotten how funny this show really was. I was home sick from work one day and I watched the whole first season . . . then I watched it again. How can anyone not love Fran Drescher she is so humorous. Now I can't wait for all the other season's to be released.

The Golden Girls - The Complete Second Season DVD

As the saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," and the second season of The Golden Girls picks up where the first ended. The same classic quartet--Blanche, Rose, Dorothy, and Sophia--is back, along with their snappy retorts, shoulder pads, and cheesecake. Well, there was one change. In the season premiere, "End of the Curse," Blanche (Rue McClanahan) goes through menopause.

Highlights of the 26 episodes include "Ladies of the Evening," featuring a cameo from Burt Reynolds, just a few years prior to his own network sitcom, Evening Shade. As Blanche exclaims, "Mr. Burt Reynolds is one of our finest living actors...I mean, you put Sir Laurence Olivier in Cannonball Run--see what he can do." Then there's "Isn't It Romantic?" with Lois Nettleton (In... More Info about this DVD

Bewitched - The Complete First Season (Black and White) DVD

My stars! The first, and perhaps most magical, season of Bewitched still casts an enchanting spell. For escapist fantasy, this series, no doubt inspired by the play Bell, Book and Candle, broke significant television ground. The Stephens were sitcoms' first mixed marriage. Advertising executive Darrin Stephens (Dick York) was mortal, and wife Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) was a witch. According to a retrospective segment included on this four-disc set, the Stephenses were also the first couple to sleep in one bed! And Samantha's mother, Endora (the venerable Agnes Morehead), and father, Maurice (Maurice Evans, most popularly known as Dr. Zaius in the original Planet of the Apes, were TV's first separated couple. Surely, Darrin did for advertising what Dick Van... More Info about this DVD

The Golden Girls - The Complete Third Season DVD

While it might seem like something out of another dimension given the world we're living in now, this prime-time show that aired from 1985 to 1992 about the hilarious exploits of four single women of a certain age living out their semi-retirement in Miami still stands up. The plots are mostly predictable, and the set never changes, but this ensemble cast really comes into its own in the third season--one that earned them three Emmys and a Golden Globe. Blanche is just as man-crazy as ever, Sophia works her brutal honesty and "picture Sicily stories" to perfection, Dorothy remains the eternal stalwart straight man without compare, and Rose's dull-witted reveries always make for a great gag. Standout episodes in this season include "A Letter to Gorbachev," where Rose pens a letter urging... More Info about this DVD

The Golden Girls - The Complete First Season DVD

Launched during the neon-lit 1980s, The Golden Girls shed light on a side of Miami ignored by Miami Vice. In other words, no drugs, no murder--just four women of "a certain age," spending their golden years in the sun. Like the theme, "Thank You for Being a Friend," the long-running sitcom was about friendship (not crime). As for the "girls," they were tart-tongued Dorothy (Beatrice Arthur), former farm girl Rose (Betty White), Southern belle Blanche (Rue McClanahan), and Dorothy's salty Sicilian mother Sophia (Estelle Getty). All were widows, with the exception of the divorced Dorothy. Created by Emmy-winning producer Susan Harris (Soap), The Golden Girls re-ignited the careers of 1970s TV veterans Arthur (All in the Family, Maude) and White... More Info about this DVD

Murphy Brown - The Complete First Season DVD

The DVD release of Murphy Brown is particularly newsworthy. There had never been anyone on primetime quite like Murphy, the star investigative reporter for the Washington, D.C.-based television news magazine F.Y.I. As created by Diane English and embodied by Candice Bergen, Murphy was, in English's words, "Mike Wallace in a dress." On camera, she was tough, smart, and relentless. Off camera she was intriguingly flawed. In the pilot episode, her character returns to work following a stay at the Betty Ford Clinic. Over the course of the season, her sobriety is supremely tested by the chaotic goings-on inside the funniest newsroom since WJM on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Murphy must contend with an unending parade of ill-suited, stressed-out secretaries (a running joke... More Info about this DVD
