Review(s): DVD Bringing Baby Home:Ultimate Baby Care
Big help
A great DVD for any expectant mom. It has so many things...I always worried about jaundice and it covered that too...now, I even know the safe way to buckle my baby's car seat.
A real winner
I saw the Parents Seal of Approval award winner stamp and I knew it would be great and it was. I bought this for my sister and we watched it together. Now I now how to take care of my niece. I finally understand why a baby's head is so soft and why we should be careful holding it.
Helped new dad
Thank you LIANDREA Company for a great DVD. I'm a first time dad and was so nervous. I watched this DVD with my wife and I felt like I could handle this...and I can. I learned about how to hold my son..I never had a baby in my family before. There's even a family therapist that talks about how dad's are going to feel...it's usually all about the moms, but this DVD had stuff about helping the dads too...

Dr. Karp applied common sense to the "problem" of crying babies that most new parents face, by borrowing from traditions being used around the world to calm babies down as if you had "flipped a switch." He acknowledges the existence of a 'fourth trimester', i.e. the first three months of the baby's life and the need to use techniques to make the baby feel as in the mother's womb to calm him/her down, appealing to their calm reflex.
These techniques are summarized as the five S's: Swaddling (very tight, to resemble the tight environment of the uterus), Side or Stomach position (otherwise known as the football hold), Shushing (as loud as the baby cries), Swinging (making the head jiggle slightly, to replicate the mom's movements with the baby in her tummy) and Sucking (with your finger,... Our family has the video version of this DVD. Here is the review for it:
Overall, this video is absolutely excellent for any mother who wants to learn the basics of Baby care. It devotes a reasonable amount of time to breastfeeding, and does show a lot of actual breastfeeding footage (which many feel is inappropriate for husbands and children to see).
The only real problem with the video are the scare tactics that they use to promote vaccinations, such as children in the hospital. The vaccine section bothers me, not only because of the scare tactics, but also because everyone in the whole video appears to be rich, EXCEPT for the parents of the children in the vaccination portion, which appeared to be very poor. I would recommend that parents read the book Vaccination: The... It's broken down into simple segments and very easy to follow. Watching it gave me a real sense of how long a bath might take, etc. If you don't know much and are considering this DVD, then it will probably be perfect for you. If you already know how to take care of a baby, and need some reminders, then you might do better asking around or looking online for refreshers. I bought this DVD because I didn't want to attend a traditional childbirth class, but still wanted to be informed. I found this to be just what I needed. The instructor gives a lot of good information is a pretty compact amount of time. I like the fact that I can go back and review parts of it whenever I want. I did not find the audio quality, her sense of humor or her accent to be annoying or prohibitive to the learning process as some others seem to have. I received this DVD as a gift before the birth of my second child. I had successfully breastfed my first-born for ten months and enjoyed every rewarding minute. I wasn't concerned about breastfeeding my second child because of the postive experience from the first, but when she arrived, we found ourselves struggling. Unable to remember the details of breastfeeding from the three years before, I looked to Nature's Way for some help. I was instantly rewarded. We began to latch with more ease, and breastfeeding became enjoyable for both of us.
Nature's Way provides both new and experienced moms an in-depth look at breastfeeding. The positioning and latching segments show the mother and baby from several angles and allow the viewer to hear the sounds of proper nursing. The...
