    What a TRUE Classic!!

It's about time!!I have been intrigued with this series most of my life..Even though I was only 9 months old when the series began, I did get to see the color episodes toward the end of Petticoat's run on CBS. Turns out I was hooked and in love with the Hooterville "Cannonball". So imagine my excitement when this collection of B&W episodes became available with the orignal theme song(what a tune!!). I was like a kid at Christmas! I bought the Columbia House vhs collection some years ago and was only exposed to several of the classic B&W's. Oh.. how I longed to see the others. Now,thanks to MPI it has become a reality and a beginning of sorts to bring back the best of Petticoat Junction!! I can truly say..a job well done! I hope the sales of this collection prompts the release of the remaining 1st season and the 2nd..There is a lot of classic still yet to see! See you at the Junction!!

Go Back Home to the Shady Rest

I must admit that I am a couple of years too young to remember the original Billie and Bobbie Jo's--and I'm not crazy about those original actresses! I loved this quaint, wholesome program as a child (I come from an all-girl family), and watched it religiously. If you liked the program originally, you will love to revisit all the goofy, sweet denizens of Hooterville. My 10 year-old daughter watched about 8 episodes in a row when she was home sick recently. I had forgotten how very funny Uncle Joe was--and how much he reminded me of my dad (who was also named Joe). This world is sometimes a sad and scary place--going "home" to Hooterville is infinitely comforting--which is probably why my daughter enjoyed it so much.

Thanks For Bringing Us Back 'Classic' TV!!

I just finished watching the first DVD in this collection of the 1st Season of what I consider one of the very best rural comedies on television EVER.

I was only three years old when Petticoat Junction premiered in 1963 and I only remember the color shows when I started kindergarten, but having these shows to see what I 'missed' as a young toddler has been one of the best presents I could have ever given to myself.

These old B&W shows to me have a bit of the old B&W Beverly Hillbillies, but then they branch off into a warm, inviting humor. Now that I have viewed these shows, I can see why Paul Henning chose the very talented and versatile Actress Bea Benaderet as the Star & Matron of this show.

I skipped the 2nd set of episodes and went straight to the Bonus Things and felt as if I was a young child in front of the television again as the Cast Members did commercials for the sponsors of their Show (Tide, Ivory Soap & Dish Detergent). That was a classic jewel and treat within itself, but then to hear the interviews of the surviving Cast Members who warmly recalled their 'Petticoat' Days and working with Paul Henning and those Cast Members who had passed on made me wish television could be like this again.

Thank you for releasing this Collection, and hopefully there will be enough of a overwhelming response that the 2nd Season will be made available as well. Thanks so much!

The Beverly Hillbillies/Petticoat Junction Christmas Collection DVD

Although I will certainly buy this collection of Christmas episodes from The Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction, it would probably have been easier and less confusing if MPI Home Video had just included them in their other, regular collections of the shows to begin with!! At least that way they would have been releasing the shows in their proper order and people wouldn't be thinking the collections are incomplete!! More Info about this DVD

Bewitched - The Complete First Season (Black and White) DVD

My stars! The first, and perhaps most magical, season of Bewitched still casts an enchanting spell. For escapist fantasy, this series, no doubt inspired by the play Bell, Book and Candle, broke significant television ground. The Stephens were sitcoms' first mixed marriage. Advertising executive Darrin Stephens (Dick York) was mortal, and wife Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) was a witch. According to a retrospective segment included on this four-disc set, the Stephenses were also the first couple to sleep in one bed! And Samantha's mother, Endora (the venerable Agnes Morehead), and father, Maurice (Maurice Evans, most popularly known as Dr. Zaius in the original Planet of the Apes, were TV's first separated couple. Surely, Darrin did for advertising what Dick Van... More Info about this DVD

Beverly Hillbillies: The Ultimate Collection, Vol. 1 DVD

All of the criticisms pointed out in previous postings are true: no, this set does not contain the complete first season; yes, they should have included the Christmas episode; yes, the sound and picture quality could be better; yes, they should have indexed the times of each episode individually instead of running them all together; yes, it would seem that a DVD set that has the apparent support of someone as important (not to mention as fabulously beautiful) as our beloved Linda Kaye Henning probably should not contain these flaws.
Nevertheless, this set is worth every penny for two reasons: 1. all the episodes are (at least as near as I can tell) COMPLETE and unedited, to include the "third" verse of the opening credits where they plug the "sponsor of the week", and, 2.... More Info about this DVD

The Doris Day Show - Season 1 DVD

Doris Day was still a big movie star when she switched gears and hit the sitcom trail in 1968. The Doris Day Show traded on her bright-bulb cheerfulness and effortless audience rapport for its appeal, and in its second and third seasons became a top-20 hit. Day herself was not happy with the premise of the first season, however: a widow and her two young sons move to the country to live with her father. The irony was, the job Day's character was leaving behind--writer for a New York women's magazine--was much more in the vein of her successful movie parts. (One episode has her traveling back to NYC to help on a story, and frankly she looks much happier there.)

Instead, the TV series lays on the rural corn, with much humor stemming from the grizzled father (Denver Pyle) and... More Info about this DVD
