DVD MacGyver - The Complete Third Season
In "Ghost Ship," MacGyver's boss, Pete (Dana Elcar), is asked to define what makes Mac (Richard Dean Anderson) so special. He replies, "You know, I've known him for eight years now, and I've never quite been able to put my finger on it. He just always comes through, no matter what." And that he does. MacGyver's third season begins with a blast from the past when Mac runs into Lisa (Elyssa Davalos), a woman he thought he had killed (unintentionally, of course). Turns out Lisa's just fine, but she did do a little time in a Russian gulag, proceeding to marry the ex-KGB operative who set her free. The two-part season opener ("Lost Love") allows Mac to make it up to his former flame with a little help from pal Jack (Bruce "D-Day" McGill), AKA "The Great Sheldrake," whose latest career move is magician.
The producers must have felt that Anderson and Davalos had chemistry as she returns a few episodes later ("Fire and Ice")--sans Russian accent--as Nikki, a different, recurring character (oddly enough, Mac fails to note the resemblance). Like Teri Hatcher's Penny, who doesn't appear in the third season, Nikki isn't a love interest, but a friend (and Phoenix Foundation colleague). While Penny will return the following year, Nikki will not. Fortunately, Michael Des Barres' maniacal Murdoc does reappear ("The Widowmaker"), but only once before Mac neatly dispatches him yet again--or does he? Other guest stars include three Kung Fu vets: The Sopranos Joe Santos ("Back From the Dead"), Blade Runner's James Hong ("Lost Love"), and Keye "Master Po" Luke ("Murderer's Sky," the season finale). The latter two appeared in previous years, but--like Davalos--as different characters (whereas Santos's Jimmy "The Eraser" Kendall was first introduced in the second season). --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Review(s): DVD MacGyver - The Complete Third Season
Just Love MacGyver.. Why can't they have shows like this now?
Why dont' they have shows like this on tv now? My five sons adore this show. I can't wait for season four to come! Any ideas as to when it's coming out?
MacGyver Never Bores Us!
I was a big fan of this show when it was originally broadcast. I think the writing is imaginative, clever, and oft times humorous.
It is amazinging what Mac can do with duct tape and a Swiss Army Knife. I know the Swiss make army knives, but do they have an army?
All three seasons so far have been well worth the money spent.
SEASON 3 - ONE OF THE BEST
THE THIRD SEASON OF MACGYVER HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE. THE LOVE STORY AT THE BEGINNING, THE RETURN OF MURDOCH, BIGFOOT, AND EVEN HOCKEY! A VERY GOOD SEASON FOR THE SHOW, IT LEADS AWAY FROM THE INDIANA JONES TYPE STORIES OF PREVIOUS SEASONS. WE GET TO SEE MAC IN HUMANITARIAN CAUSES CLOSE TO HOME, AND NOT JUST GLOBETROTTING. JACK DALTON IS A KEY PLAYER IN THIS SEASON, AND ALMOST "STEALS" THE SCREEN WHEN HES ON. I ALWAYS ENJOY MURDOCH, HE IS SIMPLY THE BEST, AND HE NEVER ACTUALLY DIES WHICH IS FANTASTIC. AS MUCH AS HE CAN'T KILL MACGYVER, MAC CANNOT SEEM TO GET RID OF HIM EITHER. HE IS THE ANTITHESIS OF ALL THAT IS GOOD IN MAC. WHEN MURDOCH IS BAD, HE'S IN BEST FORM.
I ALSO WANTED TO CORRECT A POST BY gargantsurprise. MURDOCH ACTUALLY MAKES TWO APPEARANCES IN SEASON 5. HE IS IN "HALLOWEEN KNIGHTS" AND "SERENITY". HE IS NOT LIMITED TO JUST ONE APPEARANCE A SEASON FOR SEASON 5.

Like James Bond--but without the high-tech gadgets--Angus MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) is one of those rare beings who can avert any crisis without mussing a hair. (The rest of us should be so lucky.) In the pilot alone, the secret agent dismantles a missile using a paper clip and fashions a rocket thruster out of a pistol. Is there anything MacGyver can't do? As the first season of ABC's long-running adventure series proves, the answer is a resounding no. MacGyver's secret: the everyday items he "finds along the way," like matches or gum wrappers, and the ingenuity to put them to a myriad of uses (a background in physics and chemistry doesn't hurt). Unlike Alias' Sidney Bristow, he isn't a multi-linguist, a martial artist, or a master of disguises. Wits are MacGyver's weapon... I love how quickly these MacGyver sets are coming out. This time around, we have episodes 65 through 83, which feature MacGyver in his prime. The chemistry between the characters is smooth and well-defined. The occasional supporting characters (Jack, Penny, etc) begin to hit a regular rhythm with their appearances. Murdoc shows up to cause a little more trouble. And Dana Elcar (Pete) steps behind the camera to direct a few times this season!
Season 4 starts off with a bang in episode 65, "The Secret of Parker House", as Penny Parker (Teri Hatcher) returns in a haunted house adventure.
I have read a lot of negetive reviews about the shorter version of the episode "Threads" being on this set rather than the longer more boring version. I just picked up the set and have only watched the episode "Threads" (I watched the season when it aired). I thought the shorter version was better and quicker to get to the point, there was a lot of padding in the longer version. Although I don't agree with MGM's Decision to not to put the broadcast version on the DVD, I'm glad they didn't. I don't think I will trade in my set to get the longer version. According to his sleek nemesis Miss Parker (Andrea Parker), Jarod (Michael T. Weiss) is "a genius who can become anyone that he wants to be." As the second season begins, he's still on the run and her father, Mr. Parker (Harve Presnell, Fargo), is still missing. In his place, the Centre has installed the smooth Mr. Lyle (Jamie Denton, Desperate Housewives) and his associate Brigitte (Pamela Gidley, whose British accent will soon disappear). In the premiere episode ("Back From the Dead Again"), it will also be revealed that Mr. Raines (Richard Marcus, 24) survived last season's assassination attempt. A few episodes later ("Exposed"), Mr. Parker will return, but by then Miss Parker won't be so sure he's really her father. Then again, nothing on The Pretender is...
