DVD Unleashed (Unrated Widescreen Edition)
Luc Besson wrote and directed the stylish thrillers La Femme Nikita and The Professional; though he didn't direct Unleashed, the script has his trademark fusion of outrageous sentimentality and over-the-top violence. Hong Kong action superstar Jet Li (Romeo Must Die, Hero) stars as Danny, a man raised to be a brutal attack dog by a nasty gangster named Bart (Bob Hoskins, Mona Lisa)--when Bart removes Danny's collar, Danny pulverizes everyone in the room. But a chance encounter with a blind piano tuner (Morgan Freeman, Million Dollar Baby) reveals to Danny the possibility of a less brutal life, and when a retaliation attack gives him the chance to escape, he does--but Bart won't let him go that easily. The fighting in Unleashed is effectively jolting; Li and fight choreographer Yuen Wo Ping (The Matrix) have purposefully stripped away the smoothness of most movie combat (especially with a genuine martial artist like Li) with raw, unnerving results, especially when juxtaposed with the sweet and earnest scenes of Li regaining his humanity with Freeman and his step-daughter (Kerry Condon). This freewheeling cocktail of bloody noses and ice-cream cones isn't for everyone, but fans of both Besson and Li will leave satisfied. --Bret Fetzer
Review(s): DVD Unleashed (Unrated Widescreen Edition)
A wag's tale
What's Morgan Freeman doing here?
So way below his art
He must have dipped into a bag
and blindly chose this part.
Bob Hoskins plays a cruel thug
And one you'd love to hate
His accent's thick like Glasgow fog
But otherwise he's great
Jet adds emotion to his range
He really does "dumb" well
Unleashed he lets his anger flow
For his whole life of hell
Kerry Condon's a teenager
With braces on her teeth
She sees the man inside the child
And gently probes beneath
So many things we're never told
Like who taught him to fight
It surely ain't his Uncle Bart
All dressed in suits of white
Trained to keep his collar on
The "Dog" lives in a hole
Released only to intimidate
His master crushed his soul
One day by a weird act of fate
The "Dog" finds himself free
Thanks to a kind piano man
he sees all that he can be
Now with a family of his own
He learns to love and care
A special tune gives him a jolt
The past's completely clear
Just when he thinks he's really free
His master comes a calling
and finds out that his killer dog
No longer cares for brawling
The fighting scenes are worth a look
The plot ain't worth a dime
The good thing is, the movie's short
So no great waste of time
Rated: 3.5 stars

THIS MOVIE IS REALLY LAME AND STUPID!!
This is one of the worst movies of the year. A guy acts and eats and carries around like a DOG, with collar around his neck, and waits he collar off and he jump on the people??/what the hell??
And then show him how to talk and love and eats like human? What the hell is this?? is like slavery and raciest movie.
Try putting a American African instead "JET LI " in this movie. I bet would never be release even straight to DVD, if u knows what I mean. B.S, Skip this trash!!.Dont waste ur time or money!
A TENDER-HEARTED VIOLENT FILM
Jet Li as always demonstrates miracles speaking of martial arts. "Unleashed" is a very violent film and... very good-natured. It's like ancient fairytales with their confrontation of good and evil. I wouldn't go that far as recommending this movie to small children but actually it could teach them the basic rules of morality. And I'm not talking here that in the film we can see bad guys beeing punished severely - that's questionable morality. I'm talking that here the good opposes evil so evidently even a child would see the difference. The characters played by Morgan Freeman and Kerry Condon are so positive and virtuous we can't have double thoughts about what's real kindness and warm human relations. "Unleashed" shows very straight that violence is a bad thing even if it's turned against bad people. In a moment of soulful climax Jet Li's character beeing attacked simultaneously by three persons says: "I don't want to hurt people anymore". And that's the main message here. And that's why I think this movie would be very useful for children because the message is rather comprehensible and clear.
I can note also that it's the best work of Jet Li to date as I think. Some of us didn't know but he appears to be a very good actor.

Batman Begins discards the previous four films in the series and recasts the Caped Crusader as a fearsome avenging angel. That's good news, because the series, which had gotten off to a rousing start under Tim Burton, had gradually dissolved into self-parody by 1997's Batman & Robin. As the title implies, Batman Begins tells the story anew, when Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) flees Western civilization following the murder of his parents. He is taken in by a mysterious instructor named Ducard (Liam Neeson in another mentor role) and urged to become a ninja in the League of Shadows, but he instead returns to his native Gotham City resolved to end the mob rule that is strangling it. But are there forces even more sinister at hand?

It's hard to believe Ridley Scott's handsome epic won't become the cinematic touchstone of the Crusades for years to come. Kingdom of Heaven is greater than the sum of its parts, delivering a vital, mostly engrossing tale following Balian (Orlando Bloom), a lonely French blacksmith who discovers he's a noble heir and takes his father's (Liam Neeson) place in the center of the universe circa 1184: Jerusalem. Here, grand battles and backdoor politics are key as Scott and first-time screenwriter William Monahan fashion an excellent storyline to tackle the centuries-long conflict. Two forward-thinking kings, Baldwin (Edward Norton in an uncredited yet substantial role) and Saladin (Ghassan Massoud), hold an uneasy truce between Christians (who hold the city) and Muslims while factions... Brutal and breathtaking, Sin City is Robert Rodriguez's stunningly realized vision of Frank Miller's pulpy comic books. In the first of three separate but loosely related stories, Marv (Mickey Rourke in heavy makeup) tries to track down the killers of a woman who ended up dead in his bed. In the second story, Dwight's (Clive Owen) attempt to defend a woman from a brutal abuser goes horribly wrong, and threatens to destroy the uneasy truce among the police, the mob, and the women of Old Town. Finally, an aging cop on his last day on the job (Bruce Willis) rescues a young girl from a kidnapper, but is himself thrown in jail. Years later, he has a chance to save her again.

Director Sydney Pollack delivers megawatt star power, high gloss, and political passion to The Interpreter, his first thriller since The Firm. With Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn delivering smooth, understated performances, the film more closely recalls Pollack's 1975 Robert Redford/Faye Dunaway paranoid thriller Three Days of the Condor, trading conspiratorial politicians for potential assassination in the United Nations General Assembly (this being the first film ever granted permission to use actual U.N. locations). Kidman plays a U.N. interpreter who inadvertently overhears hints of a plot to kill the reviled, tyrannical leader of her (fictional) African homeland; Penn is the Secret Service agent assigned to protect her, or to determine her role (if any) in the...
