I OWN 8 OF THESE SETS,FOR THE PRICE THEY ARE WELL WORTH IT.YOU TAKE THE GOOD WITH THE BAD.
Buyer Beware.....
Check out my review of the companion set to this one called "50 Western Classics". I have not actually seen this "Gunslingers" collection, but if it is as bad as "50 Western Classics" (also issued by the same company), then you might want to think twice before you buy this. Buyer Beware... check out my review of "50 Western Classics".
50 westerns, seems like a bargain?! Well... maybe, depending on your tolerance for sub-par film transfers. There are some great films here to be sure, but at least a third are pretty bad transfers, and the rest are mostly just marginal at best. Virtually all of the more commonly available films offered here can be found in significantly better quality elsewhere.
Virtually all of the half dozen or so of the films from the 1960's are total trash - you can not watch these without getting a headache - totally unwatchable!!! For example, check out "The Grand Duel" starring Lee Van Cleef in the sixties - a totally washed out, blurry disaster, probably one of the very worst film transfers I have ever seen on DVD (note: a much better film transfer of this movie is available on the... I succumbed to the positive reviews of these 50-Movie Packs and just got Nightmare Worlds, Drive-In Classics, and this - Chilling Classics. Well, I just finished watching the first disc and I am SO glad I did! I am very happy with the sound and picture quality - it's not perfect, but light-years ahead of some budget DVD's. Though I've only seen four films, one of them was an old grainy B&W voodoo flick, and I understood every word.
This film was called "I Eat Your Flesh", and I liked it due to it's surreal charm (If you like films like Robot Monster and The Creeping Terror, you'll like this too). The 'special effects' are hilarious but it's still a spooky film to see late at night with the lights off. The music really captivated me - it was music you'd expect to hear at an... I have several of these 50 movie packs, and overall, this one was by far the most enjoyable. Most interesting to me were the musicals produced for the "Colored" market - no production values whatsoever, but great casts - Lena Horne, Cab Calloway, Nat King Cole, the list goes on.
And then there's "The Dancing Pirate."
This is a totally fun set. More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 15 April 2005 Usually ships in 24 hours

This is not "50 Action Movies" as much as it is "50 Old Mostly Bad Movies We Had Laying Around and Thought We Could Package and Sell Somehow".
Still, many of these movies are unintentionally funny and make good MST3K fodder.
Some are unbelieveably surreal. Like "Funeral for an Assassin"" which is a South African movie in which we are expected to root for the Apartheid govt. I found myself hoping that the assassin would wipe out the entire South African Apatheid govt, but alas.......
Some are just plain awful. Like "Submarine Alert".
But there's an Ed Wood classic included..."Jail Bait". Always good for a laugh.
I'd say the 50 movies are worth the money but just keep in mind that a good half of this set are unforgiveably bad... More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 27 July 2004 Usually ships in 24 hours
