Do not, do not purchase this movie. I just finished seeing it for the first time recently, and I can say hands down that this was far and away the worst movie that Steven Seagal has ever made. Although I am not a prude, the language was disgusting with Mother F***** this and Mother F****** that every 10 seconds. The plot went nowhere and it was filled with unnecessary violence. Most of his old movies went somewhere, but this one was one violence, bad language filled scene after scene after scene. If you liked the old Steven Seagal movies, you won't like this one.
I enjoyed this movie
This movie was good all the way through, from the start to the end. The plot was easy to follow. I do not rent or buy movies to sit back and try to be a movie critic. This movie is well done. Just sit back and enjoy. By the way the little girl that you see at the end of the movie also appear at the start of the movie.
Today you die. Tomorrow you diet.
Well, another month, another direct-to-video Steven Seagal action film. I use the term 'action' in its loosest form, as this tepid movie hardly gets the audiences' adrenaline running at any point. And the term 'film'? Well, this badly-made travesty hardly qualifies in that area either . . .
The story (another hard to follow nightmare. Obviously, a standard for modern direct-to-video dreck) has the big guy playing Harlan Banks, who is hired to drive a delivery truck in Las Vegas. When he picks up $20 million, his sneering partner puts a gun to his head, ordering him to drive. After a silly car chase through Vegas, Seagal is captured and put behind bars. There, he meets the obligatory rap partner 'Treach' who helps Seagal bust out of prison. Obviously, the two pair up to bicker, fight underworld scum and generally act like they are in a 'Bad Boys' sequel. Oh, but they are not.
Seagal has now seemed to have resigned himself to the fact that it's all over. Those Warner Bros. days of 'Out for Justice' and the odd 'Under Siege' sequel are just a fading memory. His acting is just a collection of non-coherent mumbling (I was dabbling with the idea of subtitles at one point) and his stunt double actually gets more screen time than him. I can only wonder what is going on with his hair (at certain points, it looked like he had a dead badger taped to his head) and his insistance of ridiculously long jackets make him look like a 12 foot tall walking leather wallet. The only thing we can be thankful for on this occasion, is the fact that nobody is dubbing his voice and he does actually seem to be having a little fun. (Although, I have read he was less than the happy chappy on set!).
Treach just swears and holds a gun for the movies duration. He does however, get to deliver the 'title of the movie' line which obviously made his parents proud. Nick Mancuso turns up as a 'bad seed' cop, and he looks like he's just collecting a pay check. The less said about the 'pretty FBI agent' the better. She stumbles throughout the movie, trying to piece the films badly developed script together and doing an equally awful job at that.
To be honest, its hard to know where to begin with these recent spate of Seagal flicks. After the triumphant return to fom of 'Exit Wounds', I thought we were going to get a few more decent big guy movies, but he has seemed to have descended into a non-stop video rampage of crapola. He looks like he wishes he was somewhere else (a crystal cave anyone?) and most of his new films defy logic and generally fail to entertain on any level. Which is a big shame, (I hate to admit it) as I am a Seagal fan and really do look forward to these movies being released, only to be burned again and again.
This film (although competent) is awfully directed. The staging of the fight scenes are ham-fisted and the general feel is lifeless and dull. Director Don Fauntleroy seems to think that this is a funny 'buddy' movie, but the two stars have no chemistry iwith each other, and their attempts at being humerous fall flat at every turn. Seagals' jibes at Treachs' driving are painful and repetitive. The ''you're driving like Miss Daisy'' gag was used over ten years ago to better effect in 'Bad Boys' and feels like a cheap and lazy comparison here. All in all, another bad effort from Seagal. What with this and his other recent offerings (I didn't think we could get any worse than 'The Foreigner'. Hang on, here comes 'Out for a Kill'!), it seems like his star isn't just falling. It's fallen. I do really hope the big guy has another one in him. It would be a shame to think that his last set of movies are going to be these awful excuses. Oh well, I am sure we won't have to wait too long for the next release . . .
Sony's disc is just a movie only affair. A few trailers to other sony product are the only notable features. The picture quality and sound are good for this kind of flick, but as the movie only looks like it cost a buck ninety five, that ain't saying much.
Prophetic lines to say the least, uttered by Gary Daniels in the beginning of the movie, almost as if he knew what crap that is Submerged was going to 'surface' from Anthony Hilcox.
I think most of the reviews already got it the high points of the film. The supporting cast (some of them) is the movie's only saving grace of 2 stars.
Heres some hilarious things to look out for if you dare watch this malady:
-Seagal's odd Cajun accent, which he ONLY uses for some reason in the beginning of the film! Its like he forgot to do the Cajun bit or just said to hell with it. Some future classic lines such as, "Where my crew?", "What if he not?", "Who the f--- is this?" and of course, "Theres... Yes folks, "Mumbles the Wrist Snapper" has struck again. Seagal has perfected the art of playing CIA operatives with different names--he's quite the versatile actor. (Though let us not forget that Seagal claims to have been a CIA operative in real life.) Seagal has stated that as his early films were produced by the mob, he was often forced into making films he really did not want to make. This, he has stated, explains some of the low quality of his earlier films. Now, he asserts, he's free to make whatever type of film he wants. Apparently, now that the man seems to have lost his mind and thinks he's some type of reincarnated Eastern religious figure (which he really does, I kid you not), the types of films he wants to make are incoherent messes with little-to-no fighting,... I wrote the draft for this after seeing the film, and before I read any of these reviews, so everything is genuine and from the heart, no intended copying of phrases. I was so miffed by the awfulness of it that I felt I had to commit to "paper". I was looking forward to this after previewing the only wham-bam tankfire action in the film in a local AV store. How disappointing it is to buy the DVD and see the rest of the grunge that surrounds this thin sliver of central action. Stilted and wooden performances from po-faced and chisel-chinned actors and actress, who genuinely seem to be enjoying their roles - NOT! Not surprising really, as the script and screenplay seem like they were written in a school project exercise (into plagiarism). The same old cliches you've seen a thousand times... You get two hostage crises for the price of one in Hostage, an overwrought but otherwise involving thriller grounded by Bruce Willis's solid lead performance. Making a dramatic pit-stop on his way to Die Hard 4, Willis plays a traumatized former Los Angeles hostage negotiator, now working as a nearly-divorced police chief in sleepy Ventura County, California. Willis suddenly finds himself amidst two potentially deadly stand-offs when a trio of hapless teenagers seize hostages in the fortress-like home of an accountant (Kevin Pollack) whose connections to organized crime result in Willis struggling to rescue his estranged wife and daughter, who are being held hostage by faceless thugs at an undisclosed location. Having directed two of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell video...
