Review(s): DVD Looney Tunes - Golden Collection Volumes 1-3
Amazon lowered the price.
Volumes 1-3 were a total of $129.54 with Super Saver Shipping. If you order each volume separately or purchase Volume 1-2 and add Volume 3, either way they are more expensive and cost about $140.00. Amazon must have listened to some of the complaints.
I grew up loving Looney Tunes, especially Bugs and wanted to share them with my daughter who is nine. She loves watching Looney Tunes and seems to prefer them over the cartoons that are on currently on TV.
A better option.
Recently, I purchased these three volumes of this great cartoon. While this option presented here is in the best interest of the consumer's mind - and it presents you with a "discount" - it is not presented in the best interest of your wallet. When I purchased these three volumes, I purchased each one as a separate item. The total cost came out to be right around $140, which is $30 less expensive than this option. The Super Saver Shipping allows for free shipping on those, so there isn't any hidden cost. Please, save yourselves some money and buy them separately.

If you've got the others, grab this set as well. Looney Tunes have never looked better.
This time around, the box set is smaller and much more efficient. The previous sets had one disc per fold-out, which left extra space on the opposite side to fill up with dumb quotes from the shorts. Now the layout is much better.
The cover art however, could've been much better. It looks so much like the first volume - why couldn't they do something different? Volume 3's cover was refreshing, volume 4's looks bland. The gloss and emboss is nice, though.
I love the black and white shorts - the sense of humour in the early 30's shorts is totally different from later years. The characters would always make objects do things they weren't supposed to - like grabbing... Unlike Disney, which has it's penultimate character, Mickey, there really isn't one Hanna Barbera character that you can slap the company name on. You have so many popular shows and characters, everyone is surely to have their favorite. From Fred Flinstone, to George Jetson, Yogi, Huck, Top Cat, and Scooby Doo, there are just too many to put on top as the clear fan favorite.
One thing is for sure, one of the staple characters and my favorite is Yogi Bear and his beloved sidekick, Boo Boo. They are constantly getting in trouble with Ranger Smith, either for stealing picnic baskets, or trying to escape from Jellystone Park. Of course, many should be able to tell that the characterization of Yogi came from Ed Norton of the Honeymooners (while Fred Flinstone was Jackie... Huckleberry Hound has been rather given the cold shoulder over the last few decades. I only remember his cartoon being on at 6 a.m. on Saturdays as a kid - so therefore I can only associate this dog with my parents taking us on painful long distance "beat the traffic" trips. Or fishing. So I'm thrilled that this first batch of Huckleberry Hounds will finally thrilled to get a chance to catch the blue dog in a proper time.
Plus there's a whole bunch of Yogi cartoons - the hip early ones. More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: 15 November 2005

The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie Chuck Jones directed some of the funniest shorts in the history of filmmaking, and this 1979 feature-length compilation includes several of his best cartoons. Among the 11 shorts shown in their entirety are the classics "Robin Hood Daffy," "What's Opera, Doc?," "Bully for Bugs," and "Duck Amuck," which remain as hilarious as they were when first released 50 years ago. As with any collection, the viewer wonders why some films were omitted or cut ("Long Haired Hare" combs footage from several Road Runner shorts into a 20-minute montage weakening the pacing). These caveats aside, The Bugs Bunny Road Runner Movie provides a showcase not only for Jones's razor-sharp timing, but for the work of his exceptional crew, which included designer...
