Review(s): DVD Leave It to Beaver - The Complete First Season
AWESOME JOB !LEAVE IT TO BEAVER!
I just want to say being a huge fan of this show, the DVD's are wonderful, clear picture, and just fun family fun! They did a fantastic job on this DVD series, and it's well worth owning!
Five stars for the show, 2 stars for the Dvd set
As the title of this review states, the sitcom Leave it to Beaver (LITB) is the reason why we're considering buying this Dvd set. It's an old show with a long established fan base. The most important reason for this review, in my opinion, is to rate the quality of the Dvd set. I have to say that in comparison to offerings from other studios, the quality of Universal's Dvd set's seem to be lacking; and it's not just LITB. I've read reviews of other Universal sets and they have a commonality. Poor to mediocre picture quality, less desirable double sided disks, and lack of extras. Two important reasons to recommend shelling out hard earned cash for an old show that we've seen a thousand times is superior picture quality and extras that we've never seen before. It seems most of the glowing reviews of this show and others are based on our affinity for the show and not the quality of the Dvd set. As long as we keep liberally spending our money while getting caught up in childhood nostalgia, what's the incentive for studios like Universal to do better next time. I purchased season one, but don't plan on buying any further seasons unless Universal gets serious and doesn't just treat LITB as just another cash cow. It seems Beaver and the rest of the Cleavers (and the fans) are just victims of a careless studio.
It's Friday and the weekend is here
Old Beaver, reminds me of school days and playing until dark, until my mother called me in. One thing for sure we never missed Beaver, and with this set of DVDs I never have to. It's kind of like keeping my childhood going, and I like that. Everyone has covered the shows so well I won't be redundant. I would like to say that as I read the reviews, I am puzzled to see that there are so many varying view points as to the quality of the DVDs. Most everyone, with the exception of one reviewer who obviously came to write a review and put this wonderful show down, loves Leave It To Beaver. It is the poor quality, some speak of, that stands out in my mind. After waiting so long for this release it's a shame that care couldn't have been taken to see to it that it was as fine a product as the show itself. Thanks reviewers, I read all people have to say, and use the information to make decisions. Often I purchase despite the fact that I am not sure what I will get. I shudder to think of all the sets of DVDs I have had for quite sometime and have never even opened. Oh well, live and learn. It's worth something to own a wonderful show like this, I just hope it's viewable. Maybe if nothing else the complaints seen here will help future releases be of better quality. PS: The only thing that varies as much as the reviewers thoughts about quality of the discs is the price. Take a hint and put this in your wish list. You just might save several dollars if you check on the current price ocassionally.

The second season of Leave It to Beaver finds the Cleaver family happy and wholesome as ever, with most episodes involving the Beaver getting into a scrape, or hearing the from-the-mountaintop advice from Mom or Dad afterwards. Despite the formula, the episodes hold up well, because of the earnestness of the actors and the delivery of their lines, which is, well, swell. Mom June (Barbara Billingsley) is the matriarch who makes it all look easy in her well-pressed frocks and pearls (pay close attention to those necklaces--there are actually several; some plain strands and some with pendants), and Dad Ward (Hugh Beaumont) is thoughtful and a little monolithic. But it's the adventures of boys, older brother Wally (Tony Dow) and the Beav (Jerry Mathers), that make the show so fun. One... The Andy Griffith Show hit its stride during its third season (1962-63), admirably restored in this five-disc, 32-episode boxed set. Andy Griffith perfects his levelheaded Sheriff Andy Taylor; Don Knotts is unsurpassed as the comically neurotic Barney Fife; and Ron Howard continues his legendary run as earnest Opie. The season opens with the endearing episode "Mr. McBeevee," Opie's friend in the trees who Andy believes to be a figment of his son's imagination. From there, every disc contains renowned classics, such as "Floyd, the Gay Deceiver" starring the dashing Howard McNear; "Andy and Opie, Bachelors" offering some of the season's greatest quips; and "The Darlings Are Coming," that crazy clan of mountain musicians including the overtly flirtatious Charlene. The season is... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Gary Nelson - John Rich - Lawrence Dobkin - Aaron Ruben - Theodore J. The Andy Griffith Show returns on DVD with its complete second season, a five-disc collectors set of 31 episodes more memorable than one of Aunt Bees "kerosene cucumbers." Set in the small town of Mayberry, the television series (1960-1968) followed the hilarious antics of widower Sheriff Andy Taylor (Andy Griffith), his son Opie (Ron Howard), and Deputy Barney Fife (Don Knotts). It has achieved cult status as one of televisions most beloved sitcoms for its stellar cast, pristine comedy, and nostalgic charm. By season two, the series found its tone and tenor, proved by such classic episodes as "The Pickle Story," "The Manicurist," and "Barney and the Choir." After viewers endure (or skip) Paramounts half dozen promotional trailers at the beginning of disc...
