DVD Death Race 2000 - Special Edition
Paul Bartel's 1975 cheap-o satire about a futuristic international sport--an anything-goes car race where drivers score points for hitting pedestrians--stars David Carradine as a hero behind the wheel and Sylvester Stallone as his nemesis. The film is clever and macabre enough as a modernist satire, but finally overplays its hand in grim, decadent humor. If you filled your bath tub with cheese and jumped in, this is what this film feels like. Running over people with cars for points, nudity, explosions, I love it. Stallone was nominated for an Oscar but had it removed after trying to run over Rex Reed at the ceremony. I'm putting some swords on the front of my car and going to vist a Michigan Football game. I can't forget the black cape and mask, my sidekick, a blowup doll.
Its not all about the points
Possibly the best movie ever made. Sly Stalone, the man who brought down communist Russia in Rocky III and the Nazis in Victory. No sport is beyond his acting reach. Not to mention an old Shalolin Monk by the name of David Caradine, nuf said.
Spend the money whatever small amount it is and get this flick.
Classic B Movie
This is one of the classic B movies of the 60's and 70's. The movie was filmed on a minimal budget and you can see that in the designs and special effects. If you like a movie to have a message Death Race 2000 addresses the future of violence in America. You just have to remember the movie was filmed 30 years ago. Or you can just ignore that and enjoy a spoof about a car race. The interplay between the characters is hilarious, and the road race sequences are fun.
After the success of the wicked little sci-fi satire Death Race 2000, producer Roger Corman quickly recast David Carradine, this time as a rebel warrior in the year 3000 paired with B-movie vixen Claudia Jennings. The resulting mix of barbarians and bikers lacks the inspired humor and satirical twist of its inspiration, but it works just fine as a drive-in action picture about gladiators on motorcycles and bug-eyed mutant cannibals in second-rate makeup.
