  • DVD The Dukes of Hazzard (Unrated Full Screen Edition)

The teaming of Johnny Knoxville (Jackass: The Movie) and Seann William Scott (Dude, Where's My Car?) as well as the presence of the '70s-flavored car chases that were a specialty of the TV series guarantees that The Dukes of Hazzard will be even more lowbrow than the CBS TV series (1979-85) that inspired it. However, this brain-damaging comedy is more "rehash" than "remake," as good ol' Georgia boys Luke Duke (Knoxville) and his cousin Bo (Scott) are frequently upstaged by the General Lee, the Confederate-flagged '69 Charger that they drive, jump, race, and fly in as they smuggle moonshine for their Uncle Jesse (Willie Nelson). Meanwhile, cousin Daisy Duke (Jessica Simpson) is reliably available to model her short-shorts (aka "Daisy Dukes") and awesome figure (and let's face it, Simpson's talents pretty much begin and end right there), while corrupt honcho Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds, who should know better) recruits a local NASCAR star to advance his wily scheme of converting Hazzard County into a strip mine. Director Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers) manages to mine some good-natured humor from the movie's oval-track detour and a few colorful supporting players (notably Kevin Hefferman as the Duke's pal Sheev). Otherwise, consider yourself warned: The Dukes of Hazzard is shameless Hollywood product at its most forgettable, trafficking in shameless white, rural Southern stereotypes. If you can make it to the end, there's a blooper reel to reward your endurance. --Jeff Shannon

    Just two good ol' boys

Twenty-six years ago, this comedy adventure premiered on CBS-TV. Reruns are currently seen on CMT(Country Music Television). Two decades ago,the show got the Nielsen axe along with The Jeffersons and Alice. Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott are cousins Luke and Bo Duke, portrayed respectively by Tom Wopat and John Schneider on the CBS series. However,SWS sports a beard. Despite their characters,Knoxville looks nothing like Wopat and SWS looks nothing like Schneider. Singing sensation Jessica Simpson is Daisy Duke, another cousin of Luke's and Bo's. Daisy is a blonde unlike her brunette TV counterpart,Catherine Bach. Bach is still a sexy beauty at age 51. Daisy is a waitress at the Boar's Nest,a pub and short order restaurant owned by Hazzard County Commissioner Jefferson Davis "Boss" Hogg(Oscar winner Burt Reynolds). Unlike the late Sorrell Booke who was Hogg on the series,Reynolds kept his trademark moustache(he sported a shorn goatee until later in the film). Another legendary entertainer is country star Willie Nelson who is Uncle Jesse, portrayed by the late Denver Pyle on the series. Deputy Enos Strate, service station attendant Cooter Davenport and Hazzard County sheriff Roscoe Coltrane were portrayed by either previously unknown or little-known actors, respectively. Memorable scenes include Luke and Bo hanging out at a girls' college, their impersonating foreign scientists and of course, their going out of their way, along with Daisy,to prevent construction of a new structure on the Dukes' farmland, which they almost lost. Only Boss and Roscoe were in favor of the construction. Also, take notice of Roscoe's basset hound Flash, who was much larger than the one seen on the series(from 1980 to the cancellation). I know the TV Flash was a female, but I don't know for sure about the film Flash. Because the series ended its run in 1985,the TV Flash has since died. And she debuted on the series five years earlier. During the end credits,Nelson performs GOOD OL' BOYS written by the late Waylon Jennings. Jennings performed the song in the opening montages of every episode in the series. In fact,Nelson and Jennings were longtime friends. They had a hit in 1978,MAMMAS,DON'T LET YOU BABIES GROW UP TO BE COWBOYS which they recorded as Waylon & Willie. Also, get a load of Bo's reckless driving of the General Lee. I don't know what kind of car was unsed in the film, but I know a 1969 Dodge Charger was used on the series. One song from this soundtrack is Simpson performing THESE BOOTS WERE MADE FOR WALKIN',which was a hit in 1966 for Nancy Sinatra(daughter of the late Frank). And of course,we see in the film,Luke and Bo racing the General Lee in a derby. None of the series' cast appeared in the film, but some,if not all(the survivors) have met the film's stars. Booke died in 1994 of a massive heart attack and Pyle died on Christmas Day 1997,his 77th birthday,of lung cancer. So I dedicate this film to their memories. This is one of few films that Reynolds did without(top)star billing. This film was distributed by Warner Bros.,the same company that produced the series.

    Good Movie But...

I absolutely love this movie but I think Jessica is a bad actress, they should've choose Jessica Biel instead, shes a good actress.

Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott were hilairous...Jessica not so much.

    Looks HILARIOUS!

I have read horrible reviews of this movie but still want to see it althought I am in danger of it being a not so great movie. However the Unrated Edition looks flat out hilarious. I know that the Unrated Edition will sell more copies than Original Theatrical Version because nobody that I am aware of likes the regular version. I'll predict that the Original Theatrical Version will sell about 112 million copies and the Unrated Version 187 million copies so I am just going to enjoy on December 6th and I will take the biggest ride in them dukes boys car.:)

Mr. & Mrs. Smith (Widescreen Edition) DVD

Released amidst rumors of romance between costars Angelina Jolie and soon-to-be-divorced Brad Pitt, Mr. and Mrs. Smith offers automatic weapons and high explosives as the cure for marital boredom. The premise of this exhausting action-comedy (no relation to the 1941 Alfred Hitchcock comedy starring Carole Lombard and Robert Montgomery) is that the unhappily married Smiths (Pitt and Jolie) will improve their relationship once they discover their mutually-hidden identities as world-class assassins, but things get complicated when their secret-agency bosses order them to rub each other out. There's plenty of amusing banter in the otherwise disposable screenplay by Simon Kinberg (xXx: State of the Union, Fantastic Four), and director Doug Liman (The Bourne... More Info about this DVD

    Fantastic Four (Widescreen Edition) DVD

Fantastic Four is a light-hearted and funny take on Marvel Comics' first family of superherodom. It begins when down-on-his-luck genius Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd, Horatio Hornblower) has to enlist the financial and intellectual help of former schoolmate and rival Victor Von Doom (Julian McMahon, Nip/Tuck) in order to pursue outer-space research involving human DNA. Also on the trip are Reed's best friend, Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis, The Shield); his former lover, Sue Storm (Jessica Alba, Dark Angel, Sin City), who's now Doom's employee and love interest; and her hotshot-pilot brother, Johnny Storm (Chris Evans, Cellular). War of the Worlds (Widescreen Edition) DVD

Despite super effects, a huge budget, and the cinematic pedigree of alien-happy Steven Spielberg, this take on H.G. Wells's novel is basically a horror film packaged as a sci-fi thrill ride. Instead of a mad slasher, however, Spielberg (along with writers Josh Friedman & David Koepp) utilizes aliens hell-bent on quickly destroying humanity, and the terrifying results that prey upon adult fears, especially in the post-9/11 world. The realistic results could be a new genre, the grim popcorn thriller; often you feel like you're watching Schindler's List more than Spielberg's other thrill-machine movies (Jaws, Jurassic Park). The film centers on Ray Ferrier, a divorced father (Tom Cruise, oh so comfortable) who witnesses one giant craft destroy his New Jersey town and... More Info about this DVD

Batman Begins (Two-Disc Deluxe Edition) DVD

Batman Begins discards the previous four films in the series and recasts the Caped Crusader as a fearsome avenging angel. That's good news, because the series, which had gotten off to a rousing start under Tim Burton, had gradually dissolved into self-parody by 1997's Batman & Robin. As the title implies, Batman Begins tells the story anew, when Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) flees Western civilization following the murder of his parents. He is taken in by a mysterious instructor named Ducard (Liam Neeson in another mentor role) and urged to become a ninja in the League of Shadows, but he instead returns to his native Gotham City resolved to end the mob rule that is strangling it. But are there forces even more sinister at hand?

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Two-Disc Deluxe Edition) DVD

Mixed reviews and creepy comparisons to Michael Jackson notwithstanding, Tim Burton's splendidly imaginative adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would almost surely meet with Roald Dahl's approval. The celebrated author of darkly offbeat children's books vehemently disapproved of 1971's Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (hence the change in title), so it's only fitting that Burton and his frequent star/collaborator, Johnny Depp, should have another go, infusing the enigmatic candyman's tale with their own unique brand of imaginative oddity. Depp's pale, androgynous Wonka led some to suspect a partial riff on that most controversial of eternal children, Michael Jackson, but Burton's film is too expansively magnificent to be so narrowly defined. While... More Info about this DVD
