DVD Adventures of Superman - The Complete Second Season
Adventures of Superman - The Complete Second Season pretty much follows the formula laid out in the first season, building on what made the groundbreaking show so popular. For many fans, season two is the best of the series and it is easy to see why. Each episode has that strong "mini-serial-crime-movie" feel and was again scripted and shot to appeal to adults as well as younger audiences. This would all change once season three, the first color Superman season, rolled around and the producers would strictly tailor the show for children. The biggest difference viewers will notice in this season is the new Lois Lane. Fans had to say goodbye to the wonderfully tough Phyllis Coates, replaced by the perkier Noel Neill who would play the sassy and smart journalist for seasons to come. For many young girls growing up in the 1950s Noel Neill's Lois Lane, the first liberated woman presented to the TV audience in the children's market, was the ultimate role model. Highlights of season two include "Panic in the sky" (the episode many feel is the series best--where Superman saves Metropolis from an asteroid that also erases his memory), "Semi-Private Eye" (where Jimmy Olsen poses as a private eye to stalk the bad guys), and "The Defeat of Superman" (where Superman loses his powers thanks to a dose of Kryptonite). --Rob Bracco
Review(s): DVD Adventures of Superman - The Complete Second Season
Superman Second Season is GREAT!!!
Brings back my childhood! Wish I had kept my Superman Cape from childhood which was fashioned by an old red towel! But I couldn't fly then, and certainly can't fly now! I had forgotten that there were 2 Lois Lanes, in season 1, then in season 2 on! Good stuff for kids...no blood and gore, just lots of inuendo like they did in the old days!

Around The World With Superman
As someone who loved this wonderful series during the 50's and in sindication in later years - I still love it today - at age 51. As many have said - it seems that George Reeves was the one and only person to portray Superman. He had the charm,
charisma, the classic fine features, sense of humor, as well as very appealing vocal and acting qualities many actors today I'm sure - wish they had. And of course - that wonderful smile of his that few could resist. I have read that he was a very nice person to work with on the set and was always very sensitive and kind to others.
However - I'm not sure if everyone out there who loved him in the role knew how much he loved children and how much he did for them. I've heard and read many interviews about him and his portrayal of Superman and how he would devote many hours entertaining sick children in hospitals as the man of steel. Many children indeed - looked up to him as their own Superman and the great and wholesome role model he portrayed.
"Around The World With Superman" the last episode in the second season dvd, very nicely shows George's sensitivity and love for children as he tries to help a young blind girl regain her sight
and takes her on a once in a lifetime flight around the world - in his arms. When he first visits the girl in her mother's apartment as Clark Kent and as Superman - with the aid of the wonderful background music that made the 50's series so memorable
and enjoyable - one can clearly see George Reeve's love for children in his voice and the things he says to her and way he
looks at the young girl.
Indeed - a very touching and sensitive episode, and in my humble opinion - a very nice and memorable tribute to George.

In 1952 Superman flew right into the hearts and minds of the American TV audience faster than a speeding bullet. Though most people were already familiar with man of steel through his comic books, as well as the popular radio show, it was the new medium's Adventures of Superman that transformed our resident Kryptonian into a timeless icon. For many young baby boomers, Superman was the ultimate symbol of truth, justice and the American way. After watching this nostalgic trip back in time it is easy to see why: George Reeves. Reeves is the quintessential Superman. He is kind, confident, smart, always does the right thing and can literally do anything physically. Even Reeves' Clark Kent is cool, even cocky without any of the trademarked shy, clumsy and hickish traits the character... I hated the Time Tunnel, although I never missed the show. I was always frustrated by the fact that Tony and Doug, our time traveling heroes always landed in some precarious spot, like the deck of Titanic or the Little Big Horn battlefield. The pair never just landed on the street in Bakersfield in 1953, no. They were always in the middle of stuff and never had a clue as to how to stay out of a jam. Still the program, set in the far future of the 1970's, was entertaining and sometimes touching. My favorite episode was set in Pearl Harbor in December, 1941. There Tony encounters not only his own father, but himself as a freckled kid played by a boy named Sheldon that I knew at Bancroft Jr. High School in Los Angeles at the time. So get the Time Tunnel and be prepared to be frustrated! More Info about this DVD Actor(s): David Conrad DVD Release Date: 24 January 2006
