Had a little trouble... but nice...
Wouldn't play on my newish Sony DVD / VCR combo. Selected the desired fire, the desired soundtrack... and then it always just returned to the main menu. Made a dual-layer DVD-R copy on my computer that plays fine. Must have laid out the files a little differently on the disk. Original plays fine on my other DVD player (JVC).
There are some nice fires on this DVD. The picture quality looks good. Some of the more "blazing" fires seem to be gas-assisted and do look a little unnatural at times. I've only listened to one of the music tracks so far. Some pretty relaxing acoustic guitar picking with nice sound quality... You can listen to the real fire sounds, music, or both...
I chose this fireplace DVD over the others partially because someone said the fire sound was better on this one in a review for a different one. I'm not too impressed. Loud and clear with no backround noise, but very artificial sounding. High frequencies overdone, "cheap, plastic microphone" coloration. Sounds more like crumpling cellophane or bacon frying than wood crackling in a fire.
I've only seen one other fireplace DVD (forget which one)... and this one beats it by far in video quality. Sound on the other might have been a little more natural. Overall, I would recommend this though. Hopefully it will play properly on your machine.
...Makes me want to rent a cabin with a big fireplace... Get some 1st class firewood... a HD video camera... some quality full-range microphones... and give it a shot myself...LOL...
Not even close to HD video
This says "Shot in HD" as if it was actually HD, its not. Its just "Shot in". Which means the video on the disc is of dissapointing quality if you own an HD capable TV. Not only that but the fireplace scene selection is bad, and there aren't enough long-play scenes to make this disk worthwhile IMO. I could do without things like a campfire scene, and an ugly candle scene. Its not a big deal to buy a candle and light it so I'm not sure what the benefit of seeing a candle on a TV for ten minutes is...
Its a decent product, but, it could be better. With Blu-Ray just around the corner I would wait for a product supporting that format.
Pretty nice, but not perfect
Overall the product was nice with the options of natural sounds as well as music. I have seen a little better options for fires than this, but the many choices should have you find one or two that you may like the best. They did try hard at finding some good serene fires and although some appear unreal, it is still very good. I prefer more natural looking fires myself, but if I had known this, I may have passed it up for another purchase. Overall, it is not bad and I do like it so I give it a four stars for overall nice program, but minus one star as the different fires were not what I had anticipated being that they looked unnatural.

I bought this DVD for the instant fireplace. It's awesome for that feature alone. The fire is realistic, it fills the whole TV screen, and it crackles like a real fireplace. I swear the room feels warmer when we have it on! And the other features are a good bonus. The beach is not my favorite, because the tree looks fakey, but the kids like it. The party scenes are good background stuff to put on when you have people over. There's a lava lamp, and flashing disco lights. I often put these things on without the sound and play our own music on our sound system. It's better than having TV with commercials on. We like the view of the clothes tumbling in the dryer for "visual white noise". If you have to get a toddler (or a daddy) to sleep, this one works a wonder! A good first attempt at a "high-def" fish tank. It is certainly superior to other offerings out there. It has "plasma" in the name and plasma screens are typically smaller than DLP
due to the extra expense. It would have been nice to have one or two of the looping segments have the fish the right size for my 60 inch DLP TV. I purchased this product because I dont have a fireplace and have thoroughly enjoyed it! I like the fact that there is 3 different fires to choose from. Cant wait to turn on Christmas morning!!
