DVD The Young Riders - The Complete First Season
The premise behind this revisionist Western from executive producer Jonas McCord (Earth: Final Conflict, Ask the Dust) was novel enough: veteran character actor Anthony Zerbe ran a Pony Express station, and counted among his diverse group of riders such future legends of the Old West as Wild Bill Hickok (Josh Brolin) and Buffalo Bill Cody (Stephen Baldwin; Christopher Pettiet would join them in the series' third and final season as a youthful Jesse James). Ostensibly, the Riders' job was to deliver the U.S. mail, but somehow, adventure kept intervening, and the Riders rallied valiantly to defend escaped slaves ("Black Ulysses"), give testimony in the case of a stagecoach massacre ("Speak No Evil"), and even deal with their own growing fame ("Ten-Cent Hero," which addresses the pulp mythologizing of Hickok). Of course, there was always time for a little romance as well, especially between Hickok and comely housemother Emma Shannon (Melissa Leo, who departed the show after this season for more modern pastures on Homicide: Life in the Street). A host of notable guest stars supported the uniformly fine cast, including Cynthia Nixon ("Gathering Clouds") and Chris Penn ("Matched Pair"). The lack of any extras is something of a disappointment. --Paul Gaita
Review(s): DVD The Young Riders - The Complete First Season
Excellent show! Please release the next seasons!
It took me a couple of episodes to warm up to "The Young Riders", having become used to grittier Westerns like "Deadwood". This is definitely not "Deadwood" - it's good, clean fun and, though every episode gets pretty tense, you can always count on it all working out by the end. I find this really refreshing, actually. Sometimes the villains are walking stereotypes and the plot twists are pretty predictable. However, the cast is all-around top-notch and the character development is excellent. I have particularly enjoyed Josh Brolin as Jimmy Hickok and Melissa Leo as Emma Shannon, though the entire cast is really fantastic and they all work well together.
I highly recommend "The Young Riders" and here's hoping they release seasons 2 and 3 very soon!
PLEASE Release season 2
This was the best short lived series. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO RELEASE THE SEASONS 2 & 3!
Loved these!
A favorite from years past. Enjoyed them greatly. Looking forward to release of season 2.

Who says persistance doesn't pay off!?!?! After all that time of sharing our tapes with our friends so others could share in this awesome TV show, it is finally coming out on DVD. I am very excited because my copies weren't the best, and some were downright poor. Now we get to see them in clear, DVD-quality picture and watch them over and over without the picture getting worse.
For all of those who worked so hard for the last five years to try and get this show on the air, and then out on DVD, I say three cheers (for you UK gals) and awesome work! Personally, I stayed on the lists because the fans were fun and awesome, but also I still held out hope that we would get our show.
It's not a franchise on the order of Law & Order, CSI, or Star Trek--not yet, anyway--but with Stargate Atlantis, a more than worthy successor to SG-1, Stargate is becoming a nice little cottage industry in itself. The premise, in a nutshell: The Ancients, the greatest race the universe has ever known (or something like that), abandoned Earth millions of years ago, taking Atlantis with them; they then sunk the entire city in order to escape the clutches of the dreaded Wraith, an implacable bunch of villains who nourish themselves by sucking the life from humans. Now, as the two-hour "Rising" pilot details, a new team has gained access to the legendary city. Once they arrive, Atlantis loses the power to sustain its protective shield and rises to... Thanks MGM for finally releasing The Outer Limits on DVD in seasons - starting with season one, instead of only offering collections by various themes. I was not alone in holding out for DVD by seasons, and refusing to start collecting by the theme collections they are offering.
This is a must have for any serious collector of The Outer Limits! Many of the episodes from season one I had not seen in quite awhile, and a couple I can't remember at all.
Although there is nothing really spectacular in the format of the DVD menus, or in the special features, I did find the special features informative. The episodes themselves are what make the collection a good one.
When I used to watch these on TV, I got used to hearing the words "Please Stand By" at... More Info about this DVD Actor(s): Kevin Conway DVD Release Date: Released the 01 November 2005 Usually ships in 24 hours
