DVD The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. - The Complete Series
A science fiction-Western and comedy-drama with echoes of The Wild Wild West and Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.: The Complete Series is uniquely entertaining. Anchored by the comically heroic style of likable B-movie actor Bruce Campbell, Adventures lasted one television season in 1993-94. But it left behind a full 27 episodes (including two two-part stories) full of classic TV Western production values and a running storyline that resembles The X-Files after awhile.
Campbell plays Brisco County Jr., a bounty hunter and son of a legendary U.S. marshal (R. Lee Ermey) gunned down by the villainous John Bly (Billy Drago) and his band of misfits. The younger Brisco is hired by a consortium of businessmen to protect their interests from the likes of Bly, and while he's dedicated to that cause, Brisco is also determined to avenge his father's murder. Helping him do a little of both is a fussy attorney, Socrates Poole (Christian Clemenson); a rival bounty hunter, Lord Bowler (Julius Carry); a wacky inventor, Professor Wickwire (John Astin); and a sultry saloon singer, Dixie (Kelly Rutherford). Rockets, mysterious orbs, and superhuman strength are some of the delightfully out-of-their-element phenomena that find themselves alongside more conventional cowpoke ingredients, including a horse so smart he can chew the ropes binding Brisco's hands. For the most part, the stories stand alone. But as the season progresses, a lot of things get weirder, albeit in a good way: the truth about Bly and his connection to a golden orb everyone wants, for example, are certainly unexpected. But the show is always dazzling, often satiric ("Oy!" Dixie exclaims when Brisco outlines the steps involved in stopping a runaway wagon they're trapped within), yet heartening in an old-fashioned way. Special features include Campbell's reading of a chapter about the series in his autobiography. --Tom Keogh
Review(s): DVD The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. - The Complete Series
My must-see TV absolutely!
I can't wait to start watching one of my all-time favorite TV shows.
Besides Northern Exposure, this was my must-see TV show at that time. I
loved Bruce Campbell as Brisco and especially Julius Curry as Lord Bowler.
There were not too many quirky TV series that I remember from the early
90's and this just took the cake. When the mysterious orb appeared, it
blew my mind. It kind of reminds me of "The Adventures of Buckaroo
Banzai" with its tongue-in-cheek humor. If you are too young to have
watched this and you like the off-beat, give it a try. I'm sure you will
not be disappointed. With 135 reviews, all giving this 5 stars, how can
you go wrong?
Supreme TV show
I would say that The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. is the best show produced in the 20th century, and is the penultimate example of 90's cult television.
If you didn't get the chance to see this show when it originally aired then you should definitly pick this very well put together DVD up.
Just as I remembered the original broadcast....
This is one of Bruce Campbell's more serious roles. The series is very enjoyable and I wish that it would have continued for a few more seasons. I thank the folks that put the show together with likeable characters (Brisco County, Jr., Lord Bowler, Dixie Cousins, Socrates Poole, and Comet) and a fun storyline. There are 27 episodes on 7 DVDs plus the 8th DVD which includes the bonus features narrated by Bruce Campbell. The series is tied in with the various technology developments (the coming thing). Excellent choices were made in the casting (including Brisco Sr.). The love interests and tensions were appropriate. Brisco's unique way of dealing with the bad guys rather than just blowing them away with brute force is very refreshing (e.g., banked shots). Note: Some may think that the introduction of the orb is weird, but it is really a symbol of faith. The soundtrack and the clear image filming and editing also make this western enjoyable. This set is a "must have" for those who are familiar with the series and Bruce Campbell's work. If you like Bruce Campbell and want to scream with side-splitting slapstick humor, check out the complete series, "Jack of All Trades". A darker Bruce Campbell movie to check out is "Army of Darkness".

The venerable science fiction program Doctor Who returned to British televisions in 2005 after a 15-year absence and delighted the majority of fans and critics with its adherence to the adventure and charm of the original series while making admissions for a new generation of viewers (hipper editing and score, CGI effects). Thirteen episodes were generated, all starring Christopher Eccleston as the ninth Doctor and pop-singer-turned-actress Billie Piper as his companion Rose; acclaimed writer/producer Russell T. Davies (Touching Evil, Queer as Folk) oversaw the show as chief writer and executive producer. The new series proved so popular that the BBC agreed to revive the program for second and third seasons--though without Eccleston, who has since been replaced by... CBS had an instant hit on their hands when The Wild Wild West made its network debut on September 17, 1965. While many of the popular TV Westerns were running out of steam, series creator Michael Garrison ripped a page from the Ian Fleming/Sean Connery playbook and conceived The Wild Wild West as a "James Bond Western," energizing the genre by combining a traditional Western setting (primarily the San Francisco region in the 1870s) with the accoutrements of the spy genre. It was a foolproof formula, further refined by producer Fred Frieberger (who later produced the third and final season of Star Trek), and TWWW held its popular time-slot (7:30-8:30 on Friday nights) for its entire four-season run. Smart casting proved to be another source of audience appeal:... More Info about this DVD Director(s): Gunnar Hellström - Charles R. Rondeau - Larry Peerce - Richard Donner - Lee H. Are you pondering what I'm pondering, animation fans? Yes! Pinky and the Brain have finally arrived on DVD, and they're going to take over the world! Well, at the very least, these genetically engineered lab mice are going to prove, once and for all, that they're the best comedy duo ever created for an animated series aimed at children.... but, why limit their appeal to kids? As executive producer Steven Spielberg said to the show's creators, he wanted this brilliant, Emmy®-winning half-hour cartoon series to lure adults into watching it with their kids, and like the classic Warner Brothers cartoons of the past, it's likely the grown-ups will enjoy it even more! This is largely due to the fact that Pinky and the Brain was produced under the radar, almost as if nobody... "Remember, remember the fifth of November," for on this day, in 2020, the minds of the masses shall be set free. So says code-name V (Hugo Weaving), a man on a mission to shake society out of its blank complacent stares in the film V for Vendetta. His tactics, however, are a bit revolutionary, to say the least. The world in which V lives is very similar to Orwell's totalitarian dystopia in 1984: after years of various wars, England is now under "big brother" Chancellor Adam Sutler (played by John Hurt, who played Winston Smith in the movie 1984), whose party uses force and fear to run the nation. After they gained power, minorities and political dissenters were rounded up and removed; artistic and unacceptable religious works were confiscated. Cameras and microphones are...
