Review(s): DVD Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980 & 2004 versions, 2-Disc Widescreen Edition)
THE TRUTHFUL REVIEWER MAKES THE FINAL ATTEMPT TO HELP YOU
I brought all three 2 disc Star Wars to my brothers house. Guess what he has. That's right an LCD WIDESCREEN HDTV. And I'll bet you dont know what im going to say next. Here goes. The pixel resolution and aspect ratio arguments hold absolutely no water whatsoever. Both versions are presented in the same 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The same comparative differences I wrote for glass tube television, applies to WIDESCREEN TV as well. That's right the picture looks and sounds great for both versions. Vivid color for the enhanced (that's why it's called enhanced). And a requirement of slight color tweaking if it bothers you, for the theatrical versions. You have a choice here. You can purchase these movies and risk the possibility of bad picture quality, which just isnt so. Or you can listen to the negative reviews, pass it up and regret it when you buy these same dvds off of Ebay for a much higher price in a crude homemade package from the same crooks who wrote the negative reviews in the first place. I think George Lucas included both versions in each set, because he expected most people who complained that the 2004 boxed set were not the original versions did not buy them, and wanted to show them the differences. Besides you get two movies for the price of one. ($14.95 at BEST BUY). So how can that be a rip-off? And to the reviewer who claimed Yoda's line "Feels like what?" has been deleted. That, also is not true. It's in both versions. Good luck. I hope you make the choice you won't regret.
Thank you Mr. Lucas!
I am very happy to have the original theatrical release on DVD. I think that it looks and sounds great. It is just what I wanted from this DVD!
The bonus 1980 Unaltered Version of ESB beats ALL the bootleg copies...
I'm glad Lucas put out the Unaltered versions, because the picture quality of the bonus disc of this set BEATS ALL the Laser Disc transfers that I have owned. (I've owned 4 different Laser Disc transfer sets)

I first saw Star Wars on HBO when I was 5 years old. I then bought it on VHS, and rented the DVD's when they came out. The first couple of times I saw the movie, I was amazed and astounded each time. But after watching the updated version at the theaters and now on DVD, the movie has lost some of its magic and shine. Here is why.
First, of all the re-releases, Lucas tweaked A New Hope the most. Some scenes were added that should have been left out. The scene with Jabba in the hangar on Tatooine is a good case in point. Jappa looks way too small, and not quite as brown as he looks in Return of the Jedi. Also, one of the great things about the original trilogy is the fact that each character has minimal introduction before they appear on screen. We expected Yoda to be... Time is running out for these Limited Edition discs 12-31-06. I picked up all three of the Enhanced and Theatrical 2 disc sets (WIDESCREEN). The picture and sound quality are absolutely fine, for both the 2004 editions and the theatrical versions. The enhanced 2004 versions are vibrant in color and the theatrical versions seem slightly washed out. Only in comparison. So all you have to do is notch up the color on your tv a little bit if it really bothers you. There are no lines or scratches, vertical or otherwise. These DVDs were viewed on a reliable glass screen television. And on an LCD WIDESCREEN HDTV and the same results occurred. George Lucas might re-release his original Star Wars trilogy movies again in some sort of DELUXE MEGA 12 DISC SET in a few years. The original theatrical... Ending the most popular film epic in history, Star Wars: Episode III, Revenge of the Sith is an exciting, uneven, but ultimately satisfying journey. Picking up the action from Episode II, Attack of the Clones as well as the animated Clone Wars series, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and his apprentice, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), pursue General Grievous into space after the droid kidnapped Supreme Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid).

"I have a bad feeling about this," says the young Obi-Wan Kenobi (played by Ewan McGregor) in Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menace as he steps off a spaceship and into the most anticipated cinematic event... well, ever. He might as well be speaking for the legions of fans of the original episodes in the Star Wars saga who can't help but secretly ask themselves: Sure, this is Star Wars, but is it my Star Wars? The original elevated moviegoers' expectations so high that it would have been impossible for any subsequent film to meet them. And as with all the Star Wars movies, The Phantom Menace features inexplicable plot twists, a fistful of loose threads, and some cheek-chewing dialogue. Han Solo's swagger is sorely missed, as is the... More Info about this DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 22 March 2005 Usually ships in 24 hours

If The Phantom Menace was the setup, then Attack of the Clones is the plot-progressing payoff, and devoted Star Wars fans are sure to be enthralled. Ten years after Episode I, Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman), now a senator, resists the creation of a Republic Army to combat an evil separatist movement. The brooding Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) is resentful of his stern Jedi mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), tormented by personal loss, and showing his emerging "dark side" while protecting his new love, Amidala, from would-be assassins. Youthful romance and solemn portent foreshadow the events of the original Star Wars as Count Dooku (a.k.a. Darth Tyranus, played by Christopher Lee) forges an alliance with the Dark Lord of the Sith,...
