Review(s): DVD Another Gay Movie (Unrated Widescreen Edition) | |
I realize that many people thought this movie was funny. And I agree, some parts were funny.
However, I forced myself to watch this movie just because I wanted to know what all the hype was about, and I really don't think the movie was anything to build up. I'm still amazed that I sat through the whole thing.
The movie plays on stereotypes, which does not represent the community as a whole. I don't think I would ever want a straight friend of mine to see this movie because it so clearly feeds on the assumptions that build the deep-rooted hate that still exists in our society. This movie left NOTHING to the imagination, and seemed to not be a movie, but instead an expression of "how far can the gays push the envelope."
Honestly, there were times when my mouth dropped because I was shocked that this movie was going so far over the edge. I love being gay, but this movie worries me because the audience rarely sees the characters as normal human beings. All they see are sex-crazed queers (gays and lesbians alike, because Muffler isn't any different than the 4 guys). In my opinion, I don't think that represents the entire community, and instead focuses on the extremes.
If we're supposed to be moving toward equality, this movie definitely takes us back a step.

| Its about time a fresh comedy gay movie for laughs | |
I am from Adelaide South Australia where movies like this one will take ages to be on the big screen if at all. I loved this film as all you had to do was sit back and just laugh at the so many jokes and situations that these guys go through. For a low budget film it is far better than Amercian Pie. Its is orginal and I often though to myself when is someone going to make a movie like this one. Credit should go to the actors and producers for being so natural and for the comic relief that this world needs.Just go and buy it and see it for yourself.
This movie deserves a sequel so get writing Todd Stephens.

I don't often write reviews, but I felt I had to put my two cents in. It's so easy to buy a bad gay movie these days. Never buy a DVD by it's cover. I always wait for the customer reviews on Amazon to find out if it's good or not. Make sure there are lots of reviews (minimum 30) with no less than 3.5 stars on average. So I felt I had to let customers know that this movie is good, so it can start building a good review history.
"Another Gay Movie" is just plain funny... and silly. It really is a gay "American Pie" type movie, which was crude too, but was very popular with the audiences none the less, (as I'm sure this one will be too).
The acting was good... no one was lacking in talent. All the characters were likeable (well maybe not Richard Hatch)! This movie covers every gay fable, myth or rumour of just about everything in the gay wikpedia of life (gerbaling, water sports, BDSM, vanilla to Belgian chocolate, Paul Lynde, Betty Davis, bubble butts, Mommy Dearest, toilet trading, over douching, pumps). You name it and the movie made fun of it.
The cinematography was good, considering this movie is low budget. The characters lived in over colour/color saturated Brady Bunch Bungalow houses (a la "Edward Scissorhands"). It's hard to believe the movie was shot in 16 days. These are some very hard working people who made this film!
If you enjoy comedy... and you want to spend an evening having a good laugh, then buy this movie. You won't regret it. It's now in my top 10 best gay movies ever!
ENJOY!
