Take the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, add a dash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and a lot more rum. Shake well and you'll have something resembling Dead Man's Chest, a bombastic sequel that's enjoyable as long as you don't think too hard about it. The film opens with the interrupted wedding of Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), both of whom are arrested for aiding in the escape of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in the first film. Their freedom can only be obtained by getting Captain Jack's compass, which is linked to a key that's linked to a chest belonging to Davy Jones, an undead pirate with a tentacle face and in possession of a lot of people's souls. If you're already confused, don't worry--plot is definitely not the... Learn More

This African tale follow the rhythms of director Carroll Ballard's earlier films The Black Stallion and Fly Away Home, namely a child is drawn into the mysteries and magic of an animal. Xan (newcomer Alexander Michaletos) is a 12-year-old living in South Africa with his parents (Campbell Scott and Hope Davis, who appeared as a much different couple three years earlier in The Secret Life of Dentists) when they find an abandoned baby cheetah. They bring it up as their own and name it the Swahili word for cheetah, Duma. After some time, the creature is too big to stay domesticated and Dad tells the boy they will have to journey back to Duma's home to set him free. A sickness makes the family pull up stakes and head to the city where Xan and Duma don't fare well. Xan... On a recent trip to Disneyland, I purchased a DVD with the 50th anniversay artwork on the front, thinking it was history of the park. Boy was I wrong. Do not buy the park DVD, instead wait for this one. The one currently selling at the park is nothing more than the travel video Diseny sends out as a promotional for the park. The DVD advertised as COMING SOON here is more along the lines of what I thought I was getting. Let's hope this DVD actually makes a debut sometime soon. How much longer can they hold out? Assault on Precinct 13, the second feature by John Carpenter (Halloween, Vampires), has a group of cops and convicts joining forces as they're besieged in an all-but-abandoned police station by Street Thunder, a gang armed with automatic weapons and silencers. The relationships of those holed up in the police station as they try to survive the onslaught form the better part of the movie, borrowing liberally from the films of Howard Hawks, especially Rio Bravo, to make the point about who's "good enough" and who isn't. The action is taut and shocking for its time (1976). Street Thunder is more an irrational force, an embodiment of pure evil, than a clearly motivated group with a political agenda, drawing comparisons with Assault's other main... This movie is one of the long forgotten Disney classics that have gotten far less star treatment that it deserves. It should go on record that I think that this movie is one of the best yet least known movies Disney has ever made.
It's about a boy named Jeremiah Kincaid who dreams of owning a champion race horse, but soon tosses away that dream when he falls in love with a little black lamb named Danny. Danny is the most mischievous lamb ever who drives Jerry's granny to near distraction, but Danny makes up for it all when he wins the special prize at the county fair.
If you are looking for a good, clean movie to show your kids, this is the one. The kids are respectful to their elders, there is no hard language, and this movie is very heartwarming indeed. I promise you, if you see... More Info About This DVD Actor(s): Bobby Driscoll - Beulah Bondi - Burl Ives Director(s): Harold D. Schuster - Hamilton Luske DVD Release Date: 01 January 2010

This video, is the third in the series, with the exotic, and erotic, Sylvia Kristel; who always had her voice dubbed I think, as I'm not sure if she could speak in English, but I could be wrong. It features her in a series of encounters; with and without her husband, but which were less revealing than the first two, as this was rated "R", as I don't think there's an "unrated" version of this one; but there are the first two. Anyway, she still looks great, sans clothes, and even though the dialogue is "hokey", and there's some ho-hum male nudity, just to make things "equal", she does a pretty good job of being the wife, the lover, and more. With some other mildly revealing bits, from the other actresses, it's ok. The three movies with her are the only ones really worth having, as the... Touching without being sentimental, political without being preachy, this story set in 1930s Martinique is both lyrical and powerful. Writer-director Euzhan Palcy tells the story of a young boy who is orphaned at the age of 11 and sent to live with his grandmother, who works on one of the island's sugar cane plantations. Though he is bright, she realizes he has no future if he stays on the plantation. So she does what she can to keep him in school and away from the back-breaking, will-sapping hard labor to which she's devoted her life. Can he rise above his humble beginnings? Will he forget about his self-sacrificing grandmother and leave her behind? Palcy deals with these issues with great emotion but no false sentimentality in this poignant film. In French with English subtitles.... More Info About This DVD Director(s): Euzhan Palcy DVD Release Date: 01 January 2010
