As the 2005 theatrical release of Serenity made clear, Firefly was a science fiction concept that deserved a second chance. Devoted fans (or "Browncoats") knew it all along, and with this well-packaged DVD set, those who missed the show's original broadcasts can see what they missed. Creator Joss Whedon's ambitious science-fiction Western (Whedon's third series after Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel) was canceled after only 11 of these 14 episodes had aired on the Fox network, but history has proven that its demise was woefully premature. Whedon's generic hybrid got off to a shaky start when network executives demanded an action-packed one-hour premiere ("The Train Job"); in hindsight the intended two-hour pilot (also titled "Serenity," and oddly enough, the... I first saw Star Wars on HBO when I was 5 years old. I then bought it on VHS, and rented the DVD's when they came out. The first couple of times I saw the movie, I was amazed and astounded each time. But after watching the updated version at the theaters and now on DVD, the movie has lost some of its magic and shine. Here is why.
First, of all the re-releases, Lucas tweaked A New Hope the most. Some scenes were added that should have been left out. The scene with Jabba in the hangar on Tatooine is a good case in point. Jappa looks way too small, and not quite as brown as he looks in Return of the Jedi. Also, one of the great things about the original trilogy is the fact that each character has minimal introduction before they appear on screen. We expected Yoda to be... I brought all three 2 disc Star Wars to my brothers house. Guess what he has. That's right an LCD WIDESCREEN HDTV. And I'll bet you dont know what im going to say next. Here goes. The pixel resolution and aspect ratio arguments hold absolutely no water whatsoever. Both versions are presented in the same 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The same comparative differences I wrote for glass tube television, applies to WIDESCREEN TV as well. That's right the picture looks and sounds great for both versions. Vivid color for the enhanced (that's why it's called enhanced). And a requirement of slight color tweaking if it bothers you, for the theatrical versions. You have a choice here. You can purchase these movies and risk the possibility of bad picture quality, which just isnt so. Or you can listen to the... This is one of those flicks you must watch more than once. Harrison Ford is good in this. But the most important thing about this movie isn't the storyline because it doesn't develop THAT well. But the most important part of this movie is the music and scenery. The idea is pretty good too. I can't give it 5 stars because I almost had to force myself to finish. Almost. Which was another downer; The Ending. It just kind of stops outta know where. It leaves some unanswered questions. Overall though, it's worth seeing, even buying for the low price it is at now. Call it Kolchak: The Night Stalker, The College Years or Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Boys, but the horror series Supernatural delivers some of the most satisfying small-screen scares in recent memory. The premise is deceptively simple: brothers Sam and Dean (Jared Padalecki from Gilmore Girls and Jensen Ackles, both appealing) travel the darker corners of the American landscape in search of their father, who's gone missing while hunting the malevolent forces that lead to the death of their mother. In the course of their search, the siblings encounter a host of otherworldly creatures, including vampires, ghosts, and witches, as well as such distinctly American phenomena as the urban-legend favorite the Hook ("Hookman"), monsters from Native American mythology... The first of the Godzilla movies, and the most somber and serious in tone, Gojiro was originally a 98-minute Japanese horror film, until a U.S. company bought the rights and reissued the film at 79 minutes, replacing sequences involving a Japanese reporter with new inserts of a dour, pipe-smoking Raymond Burr. Both versions appear together for the first time in this release from Sony Wonder.

Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films gave "double-dipping"--releasing a DVD then releasing an improved version shortly afterward--a good name by offering both a better film and stupendous extras in the Extended Editions. This "triple-dip" 2006 Limited Edition trilogy falls far short of that standard but is still of interest to devoted and casual fans.
What do you get? Both the theatrical and extended versions of all three films--The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King--are on three double-sided discs. The versions use seamless branching, meaning that the scenes that are common to both versions are stored on the disc only once. If you choose to watch the extended version, the disc "branches" out to the... More Info About This DVD DVD Release Date: Released the 29 August 2006 Usually ships in 24 hours
